if its the front door and not working from inside or outside then prob a faulty lock actuator, these a sealed and will need a new one. if only not working from the inside remove the inner handle and check if the handle or cable is broken. if its the rear door, could be the child lock is on, the switch can be seen with the door closed and can be pushed with a screwdriver from the inside. the rear doors can break the inner handle, the outer handle and the cable for the actuator. need to remove the trim and inspect all these.
sounds like the linkage came apart on the inside of the door. Remove the inner door panel & u will see the linkage probably disconnected. find out where its disconnected & reconnect it. there may be a clip which holds it together which u may find in the bottom of the door.
Just use the outside door handle and pull on the latch that is closed. If you use the inside door handle then you will have to undo the child lock. Pull on the latched that is closed while holding the outside door handle....Make sure that it is unlocked...
very inexpensive. dont replace anything. just get WD40 and spray the latch on the inside very well. then lift the door handle up and get a screw driver and push the latch up. then press it down and repeat. keep working the latch for a whiile. it will work out
Same problem. I have a 2000 Suzuki Esteem GL. A year ago the driver's door handle broke. Heard a sound and then it was loose. Could not open it from outside. Had to open front passenger door, open the driver's door from inside and then go out again to enter from the driver's door. FRUSTRATING. My mechanic had to take the door apart to fix it. Just a week ago, my front passenger door died on me. Can't open it from outside nor inside. The door won't open. This is such a stupid problem that costs lots to repair. Never will buy a Suzuki again. Had too many problems with it (had to fix gas tank, doors that won't open, front axle...).
