Your first priority is to find out why the light came on and fix THAT problem as it may also be the reason it won't shift as well as causing it to become overheated
This does not sound like trans replace, look for broken or damaged vacuum lines. The trans thinks there is large throttle pressure, so it is delaying shifting....
If you can`t` find it on the frame then it is in the fuel tank.This fuel system does not have a return line and the filter and regulator is in the fuel tank.
