Check to see if he brake lights are working, the park lock out gets power from the brake light circuit, it will not unlock unless the brake lights work..

SOURCE: auto door locks not working

the noise is the relay clicking for the shift lock release....the auto door lock setting needs to be turned on...it should tell you how in the owners manual...

The shift lever cannot be moved from Park until the brake pedal is depressed. If the brake sensor is not functioning then you will not be able to shift.

You need to find the shift lock override. There is usually a small plastic cover or hole somewhere near the shifter. Remove the cover and insert a thin screwdriver into the hole, depressing the lock override, while shifting it out of park. If this works then the soleniod at the shifter or the switch at the brake pedal is bad. Yes the vehicle will start in Nuetral.

Your problem is more then likely with the Automatic Transmission Shift Lock Control .This is a safety thing . Has a switch , wiring and a electrical solenoid .

• The automatic transmission shift lock control switch
• The park/neutral position switch

Sorry to here your having a problem with it already .
There are diagnostic step to find the problem , involves using a DVOM - digital volt ohm meter an using a wiring diagram to locate test points in the circuit . Plus you will need to take parts of your vehicle apart to get to those test points . The most likely part to fail is the park neutral safety switch . The contacts wear inside after hundreds of times of moving the shifter . But without testing this is just a guess .

With the ignition in the ON position, battery positive voltage is supplied to the park/neutral position switch. With the transmission in the PARK position, the contacts in the park/neutral position switch are closed. This allows current to flow through the switch to the automatic transmission shift lock control switch. The circuit continues through the normally-closed switch to the automatic transmission shift lock control solenoid. The automatic transmission shift lock control solenoid is permanently grounded. This energizes the automatic transmission shift lock control solenoid, mechanically locking the shift linkage in the PARK position. When the driver presses the brake pedal the contacts in the automatic transmission shift lock control switch open, de-energizing the automatic transmission shift lock control solenoid. This allows the shift lever to move from the PARK position.

Do the brake lights work ? If not could be cause by bad brake light switch .

• The body control module (BCM)
• The powertrain control module (PCM)
With the ignition in the ON position, battery positive voltage is supplied to the automatic transmission shift lock control solenoid. The automatic transmission shift lock control solenoid receives a ground from the BCM. When the automatic transmission shift lock control solenoid is energized, the shift lever mechanically locked in the PARK position. When the driver presses the brake pedal the PCM sends a class 2 serial data message to the BCM. The BCM turns OFF the ground control circuit and this de-energizes the automatic transmission shift lock control solenoid. The body control module (BCM) controls the automatic transmission shift lock control solenoid. Positive voltage is supplied via the ignition 1 voltage circuit to the automatic transmission shift lock control solenoid. The BCM controls the ground circuit of the automatic transmission shift lock control solenoid . When the brake pedal is depressed, the BCM removes the ground allowing the solenoid to disengage. This action allows the vehicle to be shifted out of the PARK position.

your owner's manual will tell you how to over-ride the shift lock. ususally there is a hole covered by a plastic piece, next to the shifter. pop out the cover and push the button to shift. The shifter will lock back up in park until you fix the problem. You may want to set the parking brake and use neutral when you park the car instead of " Park". That way you will not have to push the release button-it will eventually break.

make sure your brake lights work; as the shift lock is powered by the brake light fuse-replace as needed.

Could be the brake safety switch, there is an override for it, consult your owner's manual or check with the dealer for the location.
If you are parked on a grade (hill) it will put pressure on the parking pawl and make it hard to shift out of park. If you park on a non-level surface, put the parking brake on while you still have your foot on the brake in drive, then put it in park.
