If you do not know which one it is to replace, then that also tells me that you could not possibly have tested it to find out if it actually NEEDS replacing.
Please note that arbitrarilly replacing parts without first testing them to see if they are defective can be very expensive and ineffective in getting your car fixed.
Also, the only way for anyone to tell you exactly where it is located is to look it up by Year, Make, Model, Engine Size, and Transmission Type. This information is missing from your question and therefore makes your question impossible to answer with any certainty.
You could be correct, if the starter solenoid is bad and not making contact it will kill the entire electrical system and also not engage the starter motor. I would replace the solenoid. Please rate this answer, thanks.
This is the starter solenoid,if it has broken, replace the starter,it will have one on it,and this is the only way to replace it,if this was helpful, please rate, thank you.
You are not able to get to it to tap on it...its behind the motor bolted to the transmission housing, and that type of starter, even if you did tap on it would not get it to do anything.
Hi? Let's give it a bash!
Look where your gearbox meets with the enjin, locate the bolts that holds enjin and g/box together. The starter motor is located there and the connecting bolts are inline with the above mentioned bolts, the starter motor bolts on to the g/box and is located on the top half of the gearbox, should easily be visible ( under the hood, not underneath the vehicle.
Alternatively follow the thick red wire from the battery possitive to the rear of the starter motor also note that there is a thinner red wire from battery possitive to the alternator.
I hope this advice is helpfull!
Regards.
Phillip
It's on the engine, right next to the starter, it has one wire going to it. You don't need to drain the oil. If the light is coming on, you may have bad seals in the oil pan, a fairly common problem, but replacing the switch is a good fisrt step.
The starter is bolted to the engine block with 2 long bolts,it faces the radiator,or front of the car,but is located down low, better seen from under the car.Front of car, behind the chassis/frame in front of it.It bolts to the block exactly where the transmission bellhousing is located, actually,at the rear of the engine, but the engine is mounted transversely.Disconnect negative battery terminal before beginning work.
