If it is coil pack type motor you have to remove each one ,and the the plug will be at the bottom of the hole,if it has spark plug leads it will
have plugs at the end where the head meets the block. They could be under a cover top of motor.

First, you need to have it scanned for codes, then you will know what to look for. Dont replace anymore unneeded parts until you get a trouble code. you will need a OBD1 scanner. You will only know the cost and cause when you find the problem.

These old style check engine lights are pretty much just service reminders, and as such can be reset generally just by taking off the negative battery cable for about 1 hr. Still need to read codes, though. Check all your vacuum lines.

How do I remove the rear three spark plugs on a toyota avalon 1998

Hi, to change spark plug first remove coil over connecting clip ensuring to depress connector release. Next remove coil over retaining bolts. Remove coil over carefully directing coil toward driver side until rubber end able to flex out of sparkplug access tube. Remove sparkplug using sparkplug socket with rubber insert. Had to remove ratchet to gain enough clearance. At this point you should be able to remove sparkplug by tilting extension & socket toward drivers side of car. Then lay horizontal & remove toward passenger side of car. If unable to gain access in this manner you probably have too long an extension. Take care as not to damage spark plug coil over as they are considerably expensive.

There should be a cover over the engine, take the cover off and you will see them on top of the engine. CAUSE!!!! Take one sparkplug out at a time, so you don't mixed up the leads.
