Some cars have codes that must be cleared using a scan tool. Not sure if this is true for yours, but why not try that. If you don't have one, most parts stores will do this for free.

Check the manufacturer specs for completing the drive cycle. it's different per car.

Generally speaking, its 100 miles of both city and highway driving.
So about 50 miles of each after the engine is warmed up.
Can be in more than one trip, but the engine must be at operating temp before the process starts.

2001 xj8 ccm monitors won't clear

USA car, doing USA smog, not told.
no engine told/
NO DTC errors told if see them now is the time to fess up or fail we will !
so taking the car to a real shop is out of the question/ IDK????
first off to fix modern cars we need a working scan tool (real not $13code reader junk)
you failed to say what (which) monitors fail or STALL why skip a key fact this?
the CMM is list of key smog tests that run all the time to be sure they all pass muster.
the list of CMM varies by year, country ,engine in the car. gas ?or diesel and engine size and most important engine real name and ID
the VIN #8 digit on USA car VIN is the engine code that matters

the smog system must clean up that engine only. SEE?
each CMM listed item has its own rules for testing it.
the SERVICE manual covers each one to the extreme.
but not told you which line item CMM fails?

but I do know the laggards ones, sure do
EGR if present (VIN engine coded)
CAT monitor, ( p042x errors mean it fail;s)_
EVAP is the tricky one.
some eVAP monitors flat refuse to run on any full tank if fuel or close to empty.
the SM is clear on that, if you read it.
MISFIRE monitor, no P03xx errors allowed, or by other coded DTC names.
Fuel System Monitor !
there most not be DTC ERRORS NOR CEL LAMP GLOWING RUNNING.
02 SENSOR ERRORS. NOT ALLOWED.

NOW MY ANSWER VASTLY MORE SIMPLE. IF CAR IS RUNING GREAT.
NO CEL, NO DTC ERRORS WHY MONITORS DO NOT CLEAR.
well gas tank full is one
or some errors stored are not cleared for 30 cold driving cycles.
the scan tool reset clears them all but then all the CMM monitors must time out and pass muster.

this how post is just wasted
no CMM line item was told at all

all codes to clear but this one, ( why skip telling what THIS ONE MEANS)
????????????
you must have a real scan tool. do you,? NOT TOLD YET.
MUST
to do your own work takes the tool.
or buy the service manual
read the page for error not told yet and the rules of each test are clearly stated
tricky examples (deep programming in PCM)
I had a 1996 car (sold) and the cat monitor would not ever complete!! stalled.!
but i scanned it, and behold the front 02 sensor was flakey
the PCM saw that and knew it and blocked the p042x tests for CAT monitor
it did that because that test will lie to you. saving $100 dollars wasted.

also learn this oddity
my silly mazda car, the EVAP test (test B) only runs at car parked and off
and fully cold and tank not full. EVEN as I slept it ran THIS TEST.
we'd hear the EVAP solenoids clicking at night. (LIKE A GREMLIN)
the SM told why. if read.(service manual)
THIS IS JUST ONE TOOL, (OBD2) ON ONE CAR,
NOT SAYING YOUR LIST IS SAME OR LONGER.
NOT HOW SMART MY TOOL IS (NOT SUPPORTED)
EACH MONITOR TESTS HAVE THERE OWN RULES,
THE SM COVERS EACH ONE IN DETAILS.
WHEN IT RUNS AND HOW IS TOLD
LOGIC RULES. (ENGINE SPEED AND LOAD, AND MPH OR EVEN COASTING FAST RULE) AND EVEN TANK TOO FULL. IT IS STALLED AT EVAP
THERE NEED TO BE AIR ON TO OF TANK TO RUN EVAP OR IT STALLS.
WHICH ONES FAIL FOR YOUR NOT TOLD HERE IS MY LIST. GENERIC.
EVEN A BAD TRANSMISSION SLIPPING.

I have a 2002 Nissan Altima I need to know what exact Guide lines to follow to get a completed drive cycle

to get a completed drive cycle means what? to clear and DTC error , after the cure??
or need all monitors run out to do smog test.
tell why first. so we can be on the same page, as you..
as in what's up doc?
the rules or how many cycles to allow a DTC error set
and to reset are not the same and varies by the error.code.
and for the smog test monitors , more rules
see, it is not simple and the service manual in facts names them all.
some DTC error can take 30 driving cycles to reset.
see? so we use a scan tool to reset them or pull the Neg lug of the battery or we pull the PCM fuse to reset it fast.(ask)

Pre smog test rules:
a PURE OBD2 QUESTION, IS THIS CAR USA CAR.
OUR OBD2 HAS ITS OWN RULES FOR MONITOR COMPLETION.
drive it fast and slow for say 2 days and its down.
do no have full fuel tank 1/2 to 3/4/ is best, for EVAP monitor to run and complete., EVAP is the slow monitor.
use a scan tool to see if errors pop and if one monit

Hi , I just bought a 2004 Xterra w no plates. I cant register it without an emissions test. One garage did the test and it failed.

you probably can find a tech to do this for you but keep in mind that you will be paying for however long it takes for all the drive cycles to run.

Trying to get oxysens htr mon and catalyst mon to reset

Do you have a Scan tool to plug in to the cars CPU . You must reset from this scan tool and did you change the O2 Sensor with the battery hooked up. Try and take the Negative battery post wire off and wait for about 15 min then hook it up this might clear the CPU but the Scan Tool is the way to go because something else might be causing that light to stay on . Look for other issues you might have changed your sensors for no reason and make sure your gas cap is on and on right . Sounds like you need to rescan to check for other problems. need more info on what is going on and what you have done . Let me know I will try to help .

Where is 02 sens htr located on dgdge ram truck1500

The O2 heater is part of the O2 sensor itself. You would need to replace the oxygen sensor if the heater is an issue.

Question regarding a honda odyssey 1999 check engine light codes.

Ramon
P0420 relates to the catalytic converter. The computer sees little or no improvement in the exhaust before and after going through the converter. Either your oxygen sensors need replacement (3 total) or you need a new catalytic converter.
What is the mileage on the vehicle? Does it run well? Oxygen sensors generally start to fail after 70,000 miles. Catalytic converters usually fail because the engine is runnig rich and the owner ignores that fault for months. This causes the catalytic converter to overheat and fail.

P1456 relates to the evaporative emission system. This system holds the gas fumes in the system so they are not vented to the atmosphere. The most common cause of this code being set is failing to properly tighten the gas cap after refueling. Take the cap off and clean the sealing O-ring. Put it back on and tighten till it clicks 3 times. Make sure you have the correct gray colored gas cap. Clear the code and see if it resets within a few days. If it does, try replacing the gas cap.
