I'm attempting to do a timing belt change on my 2004 Chevy Aveo. The problem is when I took off the old timing belt I forgot to loosen the tension using the water pump. When I tried to install the new timing belt I noticed that the belt wont fit perfectly. I installed the belt counter clockwise from the crank to the water pump but wont reach. Do I still have to turn the water pump counter clockwise before installing the new timing belt?

Yes,there is a special wrench that fits the water pump. You have to loosen bolts on pump and put wrench on pump and turn pump to get belt on. Then tighten pump till marks line up on tensioner, then tighten the pump back down. Be sure to roll the engine around twice and recheck timing marks on crank and cams.

Replace water pump belt on a 3.8 chevy impala

You will have to 'untension' the serpentine belt first. Then to reinstall, put the belt on then loosen or 'untension' the belt tensioner. Very simple process. The belt tensioner is the first thing and the last thing you touch when changing the belt. The tensioner will apply tension to the belt after install.

Changing a 2004 aveo belt tensioner

easy. there are three bolts to the right of it. You can clearely see it in the timing belt diagram. The three bolts are under the camshaft sprocket on the left. i just did this last week. easy as hell. Make sure to tighted really good. also use metric sockets so you wont strip screws.

Ok, i have a 2005 chevy aveo and i ould like to

NOW. These cars are notorious for timing belts snapping and GM has advised to replace at 60K. I have this car and it has an interference engine, meaning that if the belt snaps there is a good chance the engine's pistons will bend the intake/exhaust valves, meaning you would have to have the engine rebuilt if this happens.

I am about to have mine changed, along with the water pump and tensioner since the water pump should be replaced before 100,000 and involves the same labor. I've found that at a Chevy dealership the whole package ranges from $500-$800 depending on who you call.

Changing a timing belt on 04 aveo

We've repaired 3 at our Chevy shop so far so you'll have to trust me when I say it's not for the faint of heart or for anyone without the special tools it takes to hold the cams in place. It is quite a job! Sorry!!

Chevy Aveo 1.6 Engine, Timing Belt Broke, Replaced,Runs Rough?

Did you have the dealer change the belt because it broke ?
If this is the case they should know if it is an interfearance engine and if it is in fact an interference engine they should have checked the valves. If you had the belt changed just because you were scared it was going to break on you then I am sure the car ran fine when you took it in.
The explanation you gave sounds to me like they have the belt a tooth off and they need to re do it because the timing is out.
I hope this helps

Tune up

At 60,000 you should have all the major things done if you haven't already:
oil change(every 3000)
air filter change(every 15,000)
coolant flush(every 30,000)
spark plugs and wires(every 30,000)
transmission fluid & filter change(every 30,000)
brakes (as needed)
PCV valve (every 20,000)

You can wait until about 75000 miles to do your timing belt.

Hope this helps
