There is a purge system on the gas tank that removes vapor from it for emissions purposes. When there is a problem with this system you get the error code. This particular error means that it is a large leak in the system. It could be a bad gas cap, defective connection for the hoses to the gas tank, there is a canister that absorbs the vapor and it could be bad or damaged.

It wont turn on,i have to give it some gas to make it come on.and when i press the brakes to stop it turns off and it pop up the codes P0440-P0014-P1345(gmc envoy 2002 )

P0440: This indicates that a part of the EVAP control system is no longer fuctioning correctly. The EVAP system consists of many parts, including (but not limited to) the gas cap, fuel lines, carbon canister, purge valve, and other hoses. The (EVAP) emission control system prevents the escape of fuel vapors from a vehicle's fuel system. Fuel vapors are routed by hoses to a charcoal canister for storage. Later, when the engine is running a purge control valve opens allowing intake vacuum to siphon the fuel vapors into the engine, you will likely not notice driveability problems with this code.

P0014: This indicates a camshaft position sensor problem which could cause your driveabilty issues.

P1345: This is a crankshaft or camshaft position sensor malfunction which could also be an issue with your driveabilty, i would have this checked by a professional scan tool such as a modis.

Failed inspection P0440

This is an evap emission system problem. Have you tried changing your gas cap? This would be the first thing to try.
Thank you,

Code P0440. Have tried changing the gas cap but still service engine light on

2003 GMC Envoy has a problem with the gas tank. The plastic tank cracks at the filler neck inlet, causing some gas leakage and code P0440. GMC replaces gas tanks for free (up to 160?).

I have a 2002 gmc envoy bringing up codes P0440 and P0495 does anyone know what these are? it seems to run fine but it makes an awful noise like a jet plane when you accelerate and the check engine light...

P0440 - Evap system large leak. This code has a real common problem of the fuel fill cap either loose or the seal or check valve bad in the cap. There are also some hose and lines from the fuel tank to the charcoal canister that can be the problem. But most common is fuel cap loose or bad.

P0495 - Cooling fan rpm too high. This code sets when the control module has commanded the cooling fan rpm to zero and the rpm exceeds a predetermined amount. Your vehicle has a clutch driven cooling fan that the control module regulates through a solenoid valve. Most common problem is a stuck fan clutch which is consistant with the "jet plane" noise you are hearing. The clutch staying engaged when it should be slipping or "idling"
