2004 cavalier won't start
Ok this could be a number of problems first i would make sure your fule pump is in working order if the car gets any type of power just sit in it turn the key to auxillary you should hear a hum or whirling sound as the pump initiates if you dont hear that ya pumps gone bad.. if there is no power check your battery make sure it has proper connection and has enough charge to kick over if its a realtivly new battery it could be your altnators gone bad it can also be your starter key switch i had this on my 1996 cavalier i bypassed it with a push button starter hooked directly to the starter.. now it may be your starter but if it has no power at all id check your battery if it does get power the way ya cna check the starter with out taking it off is to take a flat head screw driver and place it at a angle between the 2 screws making sure it contacts both screws the car should turn over there may or may not be a lil sparking and make sure to wear a rubber glove in case if it does nothign then more than likly your strter or the solinoid has goen bad and needs to be replaced
SOURCE: motor cranks but won,t start
hes right check the ignition control module.i had to replace mine because my cavalier would start fine one minute and the next it would be idling rough and backfiring. your best bet is to replace the control module.

if the car crankes and wont start there are a few things you need to have for it to run. spark fuel and timing. check for spark at plugs. check for fuel preasure and injector pulse. if these are o/k then check engine timing. if everything is o/k then you probably have a major vacume leak.
