Very vague description. It could be low on coolant, have a hole in the system, compressor could be bad, clogged orifice tube..... Check to see if the compressor clutch comes on when you turn the a/c on. If so, does it lock in and out, or stay locked in. If locks in and out, coolant is low and you can buy a can at the local parts store for around $12.00 If it stays locked in, it could be a clogged orifice tube or evaporator.
The most common problem I've seen with these cars it the a/c "manifold hose', rubs out on the fan and causes a leak. It's wont be a bunch of money. If you have any know how, you would be able to replace the hose and take it somewhere to charge the system. That would save some money, not having to pay labor.

need to recheck the stat new doesnt mean free from fault but if loosing fluid is problem --the 99 is also known for a leak from the hot water connector that is located by intake manifold and valve cover passenger side it screws onto manifold and fails do to corrosion
No it don't. it's like if your car was made with no a/c, the fan is on due to keeping engine from over heating, when main fan needs help to keep it cool it will also come on.
hi, this is a common problem and only points at one thing being at fault, the problem you are having is going to be with the oxygen sensor(or lambda sensor for its true name) Now the reason it points to this is that when the car is cold the oxygen sensor isnt working as it only starts working when it reaches a certain temperature and this is when your getting the problem then whilst the car is still hot it just wont start but as soon as it cools down you will find it starts as normal.
Replacing this part will solve your problem.
Let me know how you get on or if you need further assistance ok
