That won't have a governor on it. It sounds like you have either a fuel problem (old bad gas or dirty - inside - carburetor) or an ignition problem (poor spark, bad spark plug, worn points). Possibly a very dirty air filter.

SOURCE: RX7 with 13b engine is hard to start, idles fine, dies on accel.

problem like this on garden tractor ,was weak coil ,-when engine at low manifold pressure[idle] spark could jump gap and fire cylinder ,higher pressure /under load-wouldn't fire...check color of spark -orange,yellow ,white spark=weak, blue spark is stronge,

Where is the idle adjustment on a 1997 Toyota Corolla automatic

no,such thing, the PCM controls idle 100% at all times hot.
when cold some have thermal IAC that runs up to 150f and then PCM takes control via ISC.
this is by uSA laws EPA, here but outside, I am clueless.(so many engine me too lazy to study)
our 1.6L and 1.8L has a dual IAC, (iac and isc all in one)
a thermal IAC and and electric PCM controled ISC
see water pipe pair is IAC
a vacuum leak sure can overwhelm any IAC made.
yes simply cleaning any stuck IAC can fix it.
yes the TV valve in TB stuck open packed up carbon
sure will make idle fail hard !"throttle valve" or stuck throttle cable.
no engine told at all or VIN.
but
sold world wide with

scan the PCM see if idle switch or TPS idle fails.

Why won't my Yamaha Waverunner 2015 idle?

clogged up idle control valve
or
bad fuel , and bad filters end to end if bad fuel and no power.
it needs service, for sure.
takes tools, parts , skills and the service manual to do that.
or luck out and find fuel bad,
not told HOW long it sat with bad fuel. over 1year?

Will a low oil sensor cause my 1988 mercury 70 to go into limp mode after about 100 yards of full throttle?

You know this sounds like a fuel filter problem check the output of gas, If that is ok and filter is clear check you TPS sensor (throttle position sensor } the fuel filter is located on the passanger side in front of the tank Good Luck

1996 Yamaha virago xv535 tickover running extremely high , won't drop...at all

I owned one and fully restored it and sold it.
that is carb problem.
ticks means , IDLE RPM SPEED.
the carbs do all that. here is a list of whys, done them all me back to 1963 as a boy lots of bikes owned even no cars, for 15 years. driving.
1: carbs not cleaned, TV valve gummed up x2:
2: cables set too tight to carb .
3: choke lever set wrong, too tight cable ends.
4: carb idle screws set wrong./ sync screws wrong.
5: carb a mess of gunk making all things in it sticky and fails. (never seen one clean me for sure this old)

THE TV means throttle valve. (red x, photo)
inside the carb are 1 or 2 valves
one controls air, flow and one the needle valve slide. they are stuck , open some. only why remains.
i bet if i looked at 10 , 1996 bikes, every one has filthy carbs, end to end
and if it makes it go lean (jets full of gunk)
that is never good for the engine running lean.

why not buy the service manual
and read how to set the carbs up, proper after a full cleaning and kit'ing them out.
they are also tuned for altitude

set the brass X TV valves both are set synchronized in action
and if stuck open , idle RPM screams.
virago-undefined-undefined-0.jpgtuning any camplex carb like this takes skills and the shop manual
both. the kits are huge, full of parts and now expensive for rarity.
The top 2 diaphragms must not be cracked.

these are "SU" CV carbs, constant velocity
the hand throttle causes the TV to open off idle stops
and then vacuum wakes up the CV diaphrams, and adds fuel to your new air, you just added. that is how they work. when clean they work great and lots of power. On mine a had to go to tiny bit larger jet.
to not go lean. once done , was rocket ship rid.
I had the 900cc;. and BMW side kick 77R100s that I still love.the latter is a TORQUE monster, (fun)
good luck cleaning and tuning carbs, once clean they stay clean, with fresh gas I bet you do not have,
filthy tank.

I have a yanmar diesel tractor ym147 it will start but it goes wide open no matter what you do with throttle fuel injection pump is good what else could cause this? Injector maybe?

diesel engine always start in the full fuel position and the governor moves the rack back to idle
that indicates a stuck or broken governor in the pump so have a diesel specialist shop check it or and repair it as the pump has to be bench calibrated

My model 1431 diesel engine can not reach full rpms .and under a load starts dieing until the engine load is released.then trys to rebuild rpms.why.I already replaced the fuel filter.

the operation of a governor system in all pumps is to remain at full throttle until the governor control reaches a predetermined setting
so it is at full throttle when stopped , starts and the governor setting is idle so it runs at idle until you change that setting in which case it moves back towards full throttle again
I explain it like this so that it can be understood that from your description you will see that there is a problem in the governor control system
As governor control is critical in a diesel engine I suggest that you seek a proper diagnosis from an accredited professional diesel pump repair shop as it is very possible that the pump or electronic control will have to be inspected / repaired

Governor requires pushing forward to start. Requires two people to start

governors always stop in the full throttle position
when the engine starts the governor action is to move to the idle position against spring tension
the higher tension the higher the rpms
moving the throttle lever increases the spring tension on the governor lever an so the rpms increase
from what you say there is something wrong with the governor/ spring set up
from your photo the system may be reversed and the spring pulls to idle in which case the throttle will decrease the spring tension for higher rpm
which ever way check where the spring is located

At rest, my 1979 Olds Delta 88 diesel won't start and remain in idle unless I rev it up first and then slowly release the gas pedal. Then while driving it, the engine eventually starts to surge and then...

from your description there may be 2 problems
first and simplest is air leaks in the fuel system allowing the fuel to drain back and be replaced by air
the second and more serious which I am inclined to think may be the problem is a faulty/stuck governor system in the pump. Diesel engines start with the governor setting at full throttle which comes back to idle when started. If there is a problem then the governor will be stuck in the idle position at start and so there will be a lack of fuel to start. next by moving the accelerator you are altering the spring tension on the governor which is moving the setting. I would recommend that you take the vehicle to an accredited diesel shop and have test done on the pump and system before you spend too much money.

A smith gs 100 302 Cranks and runs full throttle with air valve open. But if you close the air valve, the motor shuts off

think it has a air cut off valve have a look for that. if it cuts air it will not idle. its used for cutting the engine.
