On the console there should be a little door. If you open the door and use a narrow screwdriver in this hole it should allow you to take the car out of park. Be sure that you have your foot on the brake when you do this or the car may move.

The shifter cable is stuck .You will have to ,set the paking brake ,and go under the hood and find the end attatched to the transmission.Carefully remove it from the trans linkage ,and see if it will move freely,if not the cable will have to be relaced.

Good info, but…First I had to replace a burnout Brake light! Who knew!? Anyway, I was able to pop the chrome bezel off and see the Pink lever(button). I heard the solenoid slide over with foot on the brake. Then pressed the Pink release lever(button) and…still couldn’t get the shifter out of Park! Would you say that it’s got to be the Interlock Latch inside? What else could it be? I’m not very mechanically inclined, so I’m a little hesitant to take apart the center console. I usually have parts left over when I do something like this.

I have a 2002 chrysler sebring, I installed a new ignition switch, car starts and runs, but won't turn off or lock, and the key won't come out. CAN YOU HELP ME?

it may be your shift selector its not going all the way in park.
you can adjust it at the transmission neutral safety switch .
loosen the cable bolt at the neutral safety switch then force it in park. with the key on but not running...
the key should be able to be removed out .
then tighten the nut back on the neutral safety switch..
fixed!! its e.z..10 minute job

2004 Chrysler Sebring. How do I check to see if the neutral safety switch is bad.

The switch is called a PRNDL switch and is located on top of the valve body, inside the transmission.

Tried while it was stuck in park. after it released, i tried neutral---nothing. It is now stuck inpark again. How do I check to see if the neutral safety switch is bad

Hi Barb, I'm glad to help! Here's something to do first, swap the starter relay with another relay that the same. If it starts your good to go. If not your next step is to see if your start-run-circuit is good. The best way to do that is hook a test light to the small wire that hooks to the starter and have someone turn the kep to the run position, "If the test light lights up brightly" replace your starter. If it does not light up then you'll have to check why the start run circuit is bad. Hope this helps and have an awesome day Barb.

Most safety switches are a black module located on the side of the transmission, where it shifts into gear.

2007 chrysler sebring stuck in park, tried to release safety switch but will not release, any other advice?

IS the car parked on a hill? If so you have to relieve the pressure on the trans. The pressure can be strong enough to prevent the shifter from moving. Also the shift cable could be bad.
