SOURCE: car wont start

Does the engine sound different when it cranks? It might be a timing belt concern? Remove the oil cap and look for the camshaft.(you might need a flashlight).Have a partner crank the engine and watch the cam. If it stays still you have a bad timing belt.Let me know what you find.

SOURCE: My 99 Honda Civic won't start.

hi from uk first ?battery may be flat ?? or you may have fault on battery connections ?? check these if ok ? have some one check if the headlights go dim /of as you operate starter? if they do not then your next thing to check is the actual starter motor connections they must be clean/secure also make sure the thinner wire that connects to the starter solenoid (this is the starter energizer that you operate as you turn to key start position ) is also secure ? check also the earth lead from battery is secure to the engine ? you could try jump leads ? one other possibility is the starter may be stuck ? try tapping it firmly with a suitable implement/hammer ? would appreciate update if you manage to start ?

SOURCE: where is the the wiper motor on a 99 honda civic

Back of engine bay and base of the windsreen you will see some plasic covers known as scuttle panels, you may have to remove the wiper arms first (10mm M6 nut under the Black circle cap on each arm)
The motor will be the size of a coke can with Silver linkage bars going to it

I have a 99 Honda Civic 1.6 I am having problems with the check engine light is on and the engine when running and warm it surges and one cylinder is popping as the engine surges.....

The check engine light is on because of the miss, a popping sound usually indicates a bad or stuck valve, also crossfiring ignition wires can cause a pop. Before you spend the money on a tune up I would perform a compression or cylinder leak down test to see what condition the engine is in. Some parts stores will loan out the gauge. I hope this helps. Take care.

I have a 99 civic 4 door and the engine surges at idle

hot engine or cold, or both???????????????????
surging or hunting idle is complex but for sure the ECU has lost control of idle speed , there are 2 macro reasons, (vast causes)
1: ISC is stuck (in non SAE terms, the idle speed control valve ) is stuck.
2: engine is missing cause the ISC to GO NUTS trying to control
idle and can not.. the 50 reasons, , have list ask.
we do tests to find out if either or both the above are bad.
do you want tests, or guessing>???

How i can replace the cranksaft for a 99 honda civic ex

If you need to replace a crankshaft for a 99 Honda Civic EX, it may mean that there's more damage to the engine than is worth inputting financially for that service.

Is the engine knocking severely indicating a bad main bearing? If so, a replacement used engine may be more economical than rebuilding the one you have.

Good luck on this repair.

What other engine will fit a 97 civic ex?

The 96-98 Civic EX came with an OBD2A D16Y8 engine. That is the only engine that will go in as a direct replacement with your current engine ECU. It's an SOHC VTEC engine that has two extra connections not found on the other 96-98 Civic engines - a VTEC solenoid and a special oil sensor used to determine if VTEC engagement is possible. If you swap in an older Civic engine (92-95 generation) you'll have to convert the car to OBD1 (requires a special adapter hardness) and run the ECU that goes with whatever engine you use. This will break functionality of your OBD2 diagnostics port, and depending on which state you live in will cause you to fail emissions checks. If you install a D16Y8 engine from a 99-00 Civic EX, you will have to swap the intake and exhaust manifolds from your old engine to the new engine, and you will be able to continue to run your existing OBD2A wiring and ECU. The 99-00 Civic EX engines have additional sensors, since those engines are OBD2B. The easiest fix would be to find a SOHC VTEC D16Y8 from a 96-98 Civic EX, as it would be a direct plug and play replacement.
