I have a 1991 pontiac bonneville with a v-6 engine.
The vehicle is stalling out when I stop at stoplights. It does start and run well afterwards and at initial start-up. The problem was happening only once in a while but is now happening a lot.

You have a problem with transmission, the lock-up in not disengaging, find the blue plug on front of trans ans unhook it, gas mileage will go down, but cheaper than pulling trans

It could be the ignition module in the distributor or the pick up coil mounted under the distributor on the shaft. could also be the coil you may need a mechanic
Sounds like the engine is starving for fuel - plugged fuel filter, failing fuel pump, malfunctioning fuel regulator, etc. Have the fuel pressure checked.
If your check engine light is on, find out the codes. I would have the fuel pressure checked again, first run the car until it stalls again and check it. I've installed pumps that went bad in as little as a couple days
Check the egr valve by located it and the vacuum hose connected to it. pull of the hose and check it for wear like cracks or hardening of the rubber. If it looks ok, reconnect it to the egr and start the engine while it is cold and with the engine idling, remove the hose from egr valve. If the engine sputters and then dies, pull off the vacuum hose one more time and try to start the car. If it runs fine with the hose disconnected, replace the egr valve.
I have a 2000 Bonneville - I had a problem with the car stalling out - then it did not want to start back up. (When it did it would idle up and down and then die) I changed out the mass air flow sensor - now I have not had a problem. Good luck with it.
