My 88 fiero is cutting off on me. afther it worms up the service engine ligth will come on and when u go to stop it will stall out and cut off, and when u crank it back up and go to put it in gear any gear but netural it will cut off . and wont work right tell it cools off

Engine stall or RPM fluctuates at idle.

This problem is commonly caused by a dirty automatic idle speed control valve and throttle valve. Buy a can of throttle valve cleaner (do not use carburetor spray cleaner!) from NAPA or Carquest (made by CRC chemicals) and spray it into the air intake while the engine is running, use up about 1/2 the can, engine will try to stall hold the speed up, shut it down and let it soak for 30 minutes, restart and blow out the remaining fluid, shut it down and disconnect the negative battery cable for 5 Min's to reset the base idle control

i check ur alternator and battery first sound like u dont have enough voltage keep car running

You will have to get a diagnostic done on the car, to find out what is causing the service engine light to illuminate. That is most likely causing your cut-off problem.

code PO1460 refers to wide open throttle air cond cut off malfunction which means that when you acc hard the a/c shuts off as not to dammage compressor either the tps is out of adj or defective only other thing can be the a/c high press switch is not working

Is the Service Engine Soon (or Check Engine) light illuminated on the instrument panel? If so, then have someone pull the codes and post them back here. Autozone will do this for you at no cost.Caution: don't purchase any parts after reading the codes on their recommendation! If no codes, then suspect either a bad crankshaft sensor or camshaft sensor. There are other possibilities too, but these are primary. I have seen MANY bad crank sensors do exactly what your describe without setting a code.

With the hood up and you standing to the side watching the engine have someone hold their foot on the brakes firmly and put the engine in gear. If the engine **** or slams into gear it more than likely the very top engine stabilizer mount. If so there is an red ignition running around the air compressor that sometimes starts to wear this wire into which can cause several problems among them the engine can stall at anytime, not start, but it can be a fire hazzard especially if there is fuel or oil present. Hope this helps.

sounds like there's too much of a load on the engine. try a complete tune-up.
