SOURCE: power steering hose cme off causing atf leaking

If the hose clamps onto the rack & pinion, get a new clamp (replace the hose too,its probably worn)Reinstall it.fill the p/s resovoir, start the car (when the fluid gets low,add more fluid)It will make moaning noises.Just make sure the new hose isnt leaking.Turn the steering wheel back & forth a few times, top off the fluid, turn the wheel again, you should be ok.If the hose bolts on to the pump, you will need to change the hose with a wrench.(fluid replacement is the same way.

SOURCE: Power steering fluid leaks quickly out 1989 Volvo 740 GLE wagon

The most obvious places are the Power steering rack itself - at each end, and the hoses that are attatched to it.
A leak at the pump is easily spotted.

Hoses are cheaper to replace than seals on the rack (which may require a new unit)

SOURCE: Transmission fluid, power steering fluid leak cause burnt smell?

The smell you are probably smelling is the fluids that are leaking hitting something hot like the exaust. Unless the leaks are so severe that it takes constant refilling then you should be ok. But be aware that when yu have leaking parts that you must regularly check those fluid levels. Them leaking wont cause major damage, but you not keeping the fluid levels up will. I had a tranny leask in my van for a 1 1/2 and thought it was a expensive fix, but I ended up fixing my leak for about 6 bucks. My point is, check your fluids once a day if not more depending on the severity of the leak.

May be a leaky hydraulic tappett. Does the engine make a tapping noise. If so, I think that's your problem. Oil leaks out of the tappett back to the sump. You the have too big a clearance. When the engine is started, it gradually fills up going back to the correct clearance and the noise goes away. Expensive to fix in garage. If you can fix it or know someone who can, here is a link. http://www.audi-sport.net/vb/a3-s3-forum-8l-chassis/118251-how-rebuild-clean-hydraulic-lifters-vag-1-8t.html Best of luck, Dave

How to fix AUDI steering oil owerflows from reservoir

Check up the hydraulic power steering pump.
See picture below for 1.6, 1.8 liters Audi (4 cyl.) engines:

If you find leaks and noise when runing, the hydraulic vane type pump is damaged. The pump inputs air inside and mix air with oil resulting foam. Therefore fluid volume inside steering instalation rises. Then pressure overflows oil from the reservoir. You need repair or replace hydraulic vane type steering pump.

You're going to need to visually inspect for leaks and if no external leaks are evident I suspect your head gaskets are leaking again - check oil for coolant in oil - it will look milky

Check power steering and all fluids to see where this leak is coming from.
If the a/c compressor engages and the belt is oily, that could cause the squealing noise, or the compressor is bad and locking up, due to a lack of oil.

I have an Audi a3 automatic and I am seeing oil in the water tank

If by this you mean that you see engine oil mixing in the coolant reservoir tank, then there is a strong possibility that the engine may need a head gasket replaced. A decent garage tech with the proper tools can perform a quick leak-down check for this to determine if it is indeed the case and can do it quickly.

2004 Audi A3 power windows and central locking have stopped working, are these on the same fuse!!!

Yes they are on the same fuse. If changing the fuse doesn't fix the problem check the passenger footwell for dampness as water can get into the convenience control unit from a possible leaking pollen filter housing. If there is no dampness, the control unit could still cause this problem and it;s situated under the carpet in the passenger footwell.

Have you verified that the power steering fluid is at the right level? If it isn't, you need to fill it to the proper level using specific Audi power steering fluid (it's a mineral-oil-like fluid, NOT the stuff you buy at the parts store). If you've run the reservoir dry and kept driving, it's likely you've burned out the pump and will have to replace it.

What symptoms does a Dodge Caravan have when it needs steering fluid repair of some type?

Hi sandav,

In response to your question, fluid can be low and more may need to be added. Any repair would be on the way it got low, fix the leak.

If it is low, steering at slower speeds will be difficult. An upper body workout. .

If you are having difficulties, post the symptoms you are experiencing. Might be able to help
