No Radio Accessory Switched 12v+ Wire

My Sunfire has no radio accessory switched 12v wire. Instead it has a purple wire that apparently turned on/off the factory one. I've been reading about extending an additional wire directly to the ignition switch panel harness. Does anyone knows what type/measure of connector do I need to plug a new cable to the existing harness? There are some free slots there, but I can't figure out the connector type just by looking. Thanks for your help.

You should be able to connect the purple to the red and that should work, regardless its a switched 12v wire, and thats all you need

SOURCE: car stereo

its pretty simple, the remote wire is used to tell the amplifier that the cd player has came on. once the cd player has came on, the amp then comes on. simply take a light tester that has a sharp tip, turn the ignition until the cd player comes on, and start testing all of the wires. when you hit a wire in which the light tester says there is power flowing through it, turn the cd player off. if the light goes off with the cd player, you have found a wire that is suitable for a remote wire. dont know how to use a light tester? http://www.bcae1.com/testlite.htm

SOURCE: Installing aftermarket radio. Wheres the accessory??

Did the radio play after you took the key out?
And do the chimes come through the speakers?
If so, then you need to get a harness to go inbetween the radio and the car harness.

2008 cobalt accessory wire color for car radio install?

I looked that up as I was puzzled myself, and here is what I found:

This:
Car Radio Accessory Switched 12v+ Wire: The radio harness does not provide a switched power source. Run a wire to the fuse box for switched power.

Or this:
Car Radio Accessory Switched 12v+ Wire: Run a primary wire from the back of your radio to your to the steering column and use the brown wire in the ignition switch harness.

Trying to hook up radio can't find account wire can any one help or got a wire diagram

Hi, normally there must be wires for +12V constant (radio memory backup), ground, +12V switched (accessory), two pair of wires for left and right front speakers, and other two pairs of wire for rear ones, since each manufacture uses different color codes, make and model is required for the wiring diagram.

Is the car radio accessory switched 12v + wire the wire I connect my steering wheel controls wire from my knew radio to?

Depends on the set up. It will supply 12v power to any accessory connected to it when the radio is turned on. By accessory, I mean : powered amplifiers with relays, motorized antennas, additional audio components. Most likely it is to power an external amplifier or sub woofer.

Hi, your factory Sunfire wire colors are pasted below. The yellow wire should be accessory. This should connect to the stereo's red power wire. The orange "always hot" wire should connect to the stereo yellow wire--this is only used to keep your station presets in memory. Please let me know if you have more questions, and thanks for using FixYa.

Is a switchable +12v wire the same as a Car Radio Accessory Switched 12v+ Wire

Yes. They are both a wire that only has power with the key in the run or accessory positions.
