97 Acura running hot.fans work

I've owned five Acuras so I have seen this on occasion. Generally, the problem can be fixed with a simple replacement of the thermostat. It gets clogged or freezes in the closed position and no water gets to the engine. Flush the radiator, add new coolant and replace the thermostat. Get a high end one, not cheap.

One of the worst parts on the Acura back then was the air conditioner. Make sure the compressor hasn't frozen up ...yet.

Step by step instructions on how to change a thermostat on a 1995 acura legend

drain coolant, locate thermostat housing on engine at end of lower radiator hose, loosen clamp to remove hose from housing and disconnect sensor...remove bolts and carefully remove housing from engine. Inspect parts and replace anything worn (such as swollen hoses, damaged housing, defective temp sensor). Sealant is not necessary to re-install the thermostat.

Where is the thermostat on my 96 Acura 3.2 tl?

The thermostat is normally located in the aluminium elbow that the top radiator hose connects to. The elbow is usually held down by two bolts and it is only necessary to remove these to replace the thermostat. It may not be necessary to remove any hoses. Take care that the new thermostat is correctly located in its recess and the old gasketing has been completely removed and that the new gasket has a smear of gasket cement on it. While tightening the bolts, make sure that the elbow is seating evenly and not catching on the edge of the thermostat or you could crack the elbow.
