I HAVE A 1999 GRAND CHEROKEE THAT JUST CUTS OFF. SOMETIMES IT COMES RIGHT BACK ON. THEN SOMETIME I HAVE TO PULLOVER, PUT IT IN PARK, CYCLE THE KEY AND IT STARTS RIGHT BACK. THEN SOMETIMES I HAVE TO LET IT SET FOR 10 MINS AND IT STARTS BACK. ANY IDEAS? THANSK... I have the same problem. I will be driving and the power just cuts off. I pull over and and at first it would just start right up. But lately it takes 10 minutes to 20 minutes to start. Is this also the crank shaft sensor. I took it in to the dealer and they diagnosed it as the Powertrain Control Module. I replaced it but it is still cutting off on me. Any help would be appreciated.
If you're saying your cherokee abruptly quits periodically, then you very likely are experiencing problems with your electrical ignition system, as found in this great diagnostic article:

This should help.

Sounds like you both are having problems with your coil packs. When they start to go bad and get hot, they will shut down on you for a while until they cool back down enough to start working again. They will get progressively worse as time goes on. I believe that you can take the coil packs to AutoZone and have them tested for free. Let me know if you have any other questions, but I think this will take care of you both. Thanks for rating my response and for using FixYa!
I was having the same problem with my 1999 Grand Cherokee I just had the crankshaft sensor replaced and it's running great!
