I can only fill about 2 gallons into my gas tank before it starts to overflow. Car runs fine, no codes tripped.

The fill tube for the fuel tank is either clogged with something or the anti-siphon feature (what stops people from stealing your gas) is fouled up. The tank and fill tube have to be inspected.

Well you troubleshooted the problem by yourself. When you put in gas it washed the filter off and your truck started. Your problem is just the fuel screen( or filter) located in the tank but you tank also needs to be flushed out to keep future occurances from happening. It is totally up to you. You can either just change the screen or change the fuel pump and it will come with a new screen. Price them both at the auto parts store and see the difference in price. It is recomended to let the professionals do this job just because of the easy to break fuel lines. But Whom ever diagnosed fuel pump and fuel filter did diagnosed it correctly. But most garages will not warrenty the job unless you change both the filter and the pump. WHEN YOU DO HAVE THE JOB DONE IT IS RECOMENDED TO HAVE LESS THAN A HALF OF A TANK OF FUEL BECAUSE WHAT EVER AMOUNT THAT IS IN THERE WILL BE REMOVED AND NEW FUEL PUT BACK IN. ALSO DONT LET THEM FILL IT UP FOR YOU UNTIL YOU KNOW THE AMOUNT THEY ARE GOING TO CHARGE YOU PER GALLON. YOU SHOULD NOT PAY FOR MORE THAT $150.00 FOR LABOR AND WHATEVER THE PART COST. Me myself as a shade tree mechanic. I usually charge $100.00 plus parts. Good luck

I have a 2005 Hyundai Accent, It is not possible to fill the tank if you are letting the petrol pump run at full speed.Trying to fill up quickly it will only build up pressure and cut off. Next time you fill up just pull the petrol pump handle half way, it will take longer to fill but you wont get the blow back. Modern petrol pumps are getting quicker all the time.Hope this helps you.

I had the same problem. My battery was going bad. When I replaced it with a new one, the fuel gauge worked fine.

Just helped a friend fix this exact same issue on his 2004 hyundai santa fe. Replaced the purge control valve - a $39 part, even from the dealer. Had to get our hands dirty, but it took literally one single hour to replace the part. Filled it up immediately afterward and no more starting problems. Part is located directly behind the manifold - top, rear of the engine compartment - just between the engine
