I HAVE A 1999 BUICK PARK AVE WITH A 3.8 SUPER CHARGED ENGINE. IT CURRENTLY HAS A BANK 1 LEAN PROBLEM AND MULTIPLE MISS FIRES CODE. I'M SURE THE BANK 1 LEAN NEEDS A NEW INJECTOR. SO I'M GOOD WITH THAT. BUT NOT SURE IF THAT WILL FIX THE MULTIPLE MISS FIRE PROBLEM?? ANYBODY RUN INTO THIS PROBLEM ALSO??
SOURCE: one of the 3 ignition coils not firing. engine run
Most likely the ignition module the coils sit on is not firing that coil.....a 90% chance.
Instead of changing the coil......just change position of the coil on the module to check this.
After you get it running good......change the crank pickup....they should be changed on every tune up on the 3.8......

This is a problem in the circuit that controls the warning light on your dash. I am not sure why you would have failed emissions for this, I would call your BMV and find out.

The code PO742 indicates the torque converter clutch is stuck on.
The torque converter is what connects the engine to the transmission.
It engages and disengages according to signals from the pcm, to aid in
smooth shifting. There are a couple of things you can try. make sure trans. fluid is full, if thats ok check the 20 pin connector, located on left
side of car on top of transmission bell housing. Make sure there's no
corrosion or bent pins. If this clears the code your all set, if not you may
want to ask your mechanic and see what he/she recomends.
Hope this helps.
Good luck

Hello Charley.
This code is most commonly set by an oxygen sensor that has become weak and is unable to generate enough voltage.
But it is possible that the engine actually is running lean and the sensor is doing it's job.
It is difficult to determine without the use of a scan tool that is capable of reading the data the sensor provides while it is running.
If the sensor is original and you have over a 100 k on the car I would recommend you change the sensor anyway.
90% chance it will fix the problem.
You will have 2 sensors on your car. You need the sensor on the engine side of the catalytic converter (bank1 sensor1)
