1998 toyota corolla shakes before 2 rpm, check engine lights up

Hi, you could check your engine mounts.

i crank car.
it starts, engine idles at 1000 to 1500 rpm cold. good
it don't misfire or shake (tuneups work)
i shift in to gear. Drive. or reverse.. car dont move
i step on gas, and RPM goes way high and car will not move.
there is my guess. correct my errors.
or post yours.

Hello there , if if idol is the same rpm as normal , Try looking at your engine mounts and transmission mounts , if one of them are broken , this can give bad vibration at idol .. Regards Graham ..

You have a vacuum leak Could be old vacuum line broken somewhere Brake booster vacuum line off Remove air cleaner and inspect all hoses

The shaking may be a separated tire.

If the check engine light is on there will be a code. Have the computer scanned for trouble codes to see why the light is on.

You need to take it to Autozone to get scanned. They will do it for free and they will let you know why the light came on. Other part stores offer the same service.

Check your engine idol. It could be that your idol speed is set to low. It should probably run at between 800 and 1000 RPM. If it is not then your idol is to low.

I'd be thinking real serious about changing the IAT sensor. Usually located on air cleaner housing, it senses the incoming air temperature & advises Computer to adjust fuel as necessary.You can try removing it & cleaning it with tuner cleaner from electronics store, but replacement is usually required. A good mechanic & scan tool can test it before replacing to see if it is functioning properly.

The rpm must have gone down too bad. Check transmission and take the car for a scan immediately before it gets out of hand.
