Question about 1991 Buick Park Avenue

1 Answer

1999 Park Avenue water pump removal

I am trying to change the water pump and 1 bolt will not clear the idler pulley. I can't get the idler pulley off because it is blocked by the motor mount. I removed the studs, nuts, and bolts from the motor mount bracket but the motor mount will not slide out of the bracket because it hits below on the crank pulley. I lowered the motor with the jack but it won't go low enough for the studs to clear the bracket. I am stumped, have no clue. Any help?

  1. Remove heater water return hose from water pump (8501) .
  1. Remove drive belt idler pulley and bolt tensioner assembly.
  1. ani_caut.gif CAUTION: If using a prying device to assist in water pump removal, be careful not to damage the mating surfaces.
Remove water pump pulley fasteners and gently pry between drive belt idler boss and frame rail and remove pulley.
  1. NOTE: Mark bolts so they may be returned to original location.
Remove water pump retaining bolts and nuts and water pump . Discard used water pump housing gasket (8507) .
Installation
NOTE: Lightly oil all bolt and stud bolt threads before installation except those specifying special sealant.
  1. ani_caut.gif CAUTION: Use care when scraping gasket surfaces as aluminum gouges easily and can cause leaks.
Clean gasket surfaces on water pump and engine front cover (6019) .
  1. NOTE: The threads of the No. 3 engine front cover retaining stud must be coated with Pipe Sealant with Teflon® D8AZ-19554-A or equivalent meeting Ford specifications ESG-M4G194-A and ESR-M18P7-A before installing.

  1. NOTE: When the battery has been disconnected and reconnected, some abnormal drive symptoms may occur while the powertrain control module (PCM) (12A650) relearns its adaptive strategy. The vehicle may need to be driven 16 km (10 miles) or more to relearn the strategy.
    Connect battery ground cable .
  1. Install idler pulley, drive belt tensioner, generator and generator wiring.
  1. Position drive belt over drive belt tensioner and release drive belt tensioner .

How do i change a water pump on 1996 grand cherokee limited V8

I'll assume you have a 4.0l

The 4.0L engine is equipped with a reverse rotation (counterclockwise) water pump. The word REVERSE is stamped or imprinted on the cover of the viscous fan drive and on the inner side of t he fan. The letter R is stamped onto the water pump impeller. When replacing water pump, ensure proper pump is installed. Installation of the wrong water pump will cause engine overheating.

NOTE:On models with 4.0 L engine, front grill must be removed to access radiator draincock. Draining cooling system can be accomplished by removing drain plug from side of block as well as by loosening radiator draincock. Drain plug is located on lower left side of engine block.

Disconnect negative battery cable. Drain cooling system. Disconnect electric cooling fan connector. Remove electric cooling fan and electric fan shroud assembly (if equipped).
Loosen, but do not remove, 4 water pump pulley-to-water pump hub bolts and 4 viscous fan-to-idler pulley nuts. Remove accessory drive belt. Remove 4 viscous fan to idler pulley nuts, and remove fan and shroud together.
Remove 4 water pump pulley bolts and remove pulley. Remove power steering pump and bracket. Disconnect heater hoses and lower radiator hose at water pump. Remove 4 water pump retaining bolts. Remove water pump.

to install just reverse procedures

that is not an idler pully that is the power steering pully if you feel through the holes in the pully you will feel the 13 mm head bolts that hold the pump to the block remove those bolts the pump will drop down and you can then remove the water pump also you have to remove the studs using the inverted torx end on the stud to unscrew it then the mount will come out
