Blowing Gauge Fuse & Stuck in limp mode

I have a 1994 Chevy K3500 6.5 turbo diesel with a 4L80E transmission. Within 5 seconds of turning the ignition on the gauge fuse blows. Plus the batteries are discharging almost immediately...showing only 11.83 volts when the truck is running. I have already had the alternator tested and it is fine. I am also having troubles with the transmission. It has been stuck in limp mode only getting second and reverse. I have installed a new tranny already, and have the same problem. I have also changed both speed sensors already but to no avail. Any advice would be appreciated.

I have the same problem and I have not yet found the solution. I am going to start by checking the wiring to the trans from the ecu but I doubt that is the problem. I am going to take a look at the shift solenoids, vss, range mode selector and torque converter clutch solenoid. Any ideas?

SOURCE: 4L80E Diesel Transmission Replacement

the gas tranny should work. gm was pretty good about keeping the same bolt pattern.

Will a 1994 chevy 4l80e 4wd swap into a 1995 GMC

Yes they will swap out nicely, the years where they made the change is in 1997 and the only difference is the transmission end housing has a different bolt pattern but has the same internal parts. You may also want to swap out the servo's with a corvette servo. The cost is around $45.00 and can be done without dropping the transmission pan, this will make your transmission shift firmer and will have less clutch slip[ between gear shifts. Good luck and hope this information helps.

Chevy silverado keeps blowing fuses

Your 20 amp fuse will not blow if glowplug wire shorts. each plug draws 15 amps which is 120 amps total.I think there are in line fuses for them. Try to wring out where each output from the fuse goes, disconnect all and reconnect one at a time till it blows. That should point to your problem process of illumination! Good Luck!!

Chevy silverado keeps blowing fuses

sounds like a mouse has got in and chewed the cables, their is no easy fix from what i can think of but check all the wires and connections in case water has got into it,or snow if your in alaska.its fifteen years old now so its possible that some insulation has broken down or a wiring loom has chaffed somewhere underneath
