Have a 54 plate lwb transit diesel, has intermittent fault where engine seems to die away and heater plug lights flashes on and off during this there is quite a loss in power, switching ignition off then on clears the problem. some days doesn't do it other days it can do this 5-6 time in quick succession. temp gauge also not working but dont think this is part of same fault. any ideas ?

ask the main man ,love a transit myself ,,undoo the rear 4 bolts then the centre support if fitted (LWB) then just pull it out ,in my time many moons ago we took a old diesel tranny then fitted a V6 zodiac engine ,changed the diff unit for a MK2 zodiac one straight fit ,what a tool could outrun any police car except the V8 rover ..long story
If your blower has multiple speeds, a fuse may not be at fault.
The speeds are set using a tapped resistor which may be on the firewall of the engine compartment.
If these fail. often the highest speed will still work but none of the others.
There are too many shapes and sizes for these but many are shown here if you find the fuse is OK:
The glow plug symbol is seen on diesel-powered engines, and it lights up to denote that the glow plugs are still warming up. Do not crank up the engine until this light goes away. However, if the light remains even when the car has been powered up, you may have a faulty glow plug.
sound like glow plugs wires harness disconnected or wires could be damaged during the transmission installation since transmission has to be remove when replacing flywheel.
All 1.5dci engines (Renault, Dacia and Nissan) use Delphi fuel injector systems. These particular Delphi fuel pumps are very sensitive to the quality of diesel you use (oil quality and level in the engine seems to be a factor, too). Once the pump is damaged internally (partial or total seizure) fine metal dust from the pump gets into the system and damages one or more injectors. If you act early (while the engine still runs) you may get away with replacing the pump and the fuel filter. However, once the dust spreads around, you need to replace the entire fuel system, including the fuel tank. To prevent this from happenning (to a fuel pump that is not yet damaged) you need to use quality diesel with low sulphur content (diesel made out of Russian or Venezuelan oil have usually high sulphur content), diesel additives (STP, Castrol, Wynns or similar) and change engine oil and oil filter at least every 15,000km/12months (Nissan uses this shorter service interval and their 1.5 dci cars seem to have much less problems with fuel injection systems).
