I have a non turbo talon that would start and run fine when cold but start to sputter while cruising and surge and rev up uncontrolably at idle before dying. If i let it cool down a bit I could drive it again a short distance before it would happen again. I could also keep the car going in first gear (5 speed manual transmission) if i didnt have to come to a stop. It sounds like it's running on only one cylinder. But when it cooled down it start and run fine. It would never overheat either. There was just a certain distance or time you could travel before it would start to miss. I drove the car like this for awhile and seemed to just get worse over time. What should i check? ECU maybe?
SOURCE: 95 eagle talon!!!!!!!!!!!
Start with oxygen sensor and than work your way to the computer. there are several sensors. it can also be your fuel pump. that sometimes happens when either pump or fuel filter are clogged or broken
SOURCE: my eagle talon will not start
Search for a way to reset the alarm. Also take the fuel lines off the engine and test the fuel pressure. You want to eliminate the fuel pump not working. If it has a reset button for the fuel pump try that. I would start at the fuel pump and worlk my way up.
SOURCE: Swap 5 speed neon trans to 5 speed talon
Check the bolt pattern on both transmissions. they should be a match but may need a washer to make up for the depth of the neon trans
