If I understanding right, you set the timing on your mazda. you may have set timing on the exhaust stroke. Rotate the crankshaft again with the belts off and realign the timing marks. You need the number 1 cylinder top dead center on the compression stroke not the exhaust stroke. Also take off distributor cap and make sure rotor is pointing toward number 1 cylinder spark plug wire when at top dead center. Hope this is what you were asking.

SOURCE: 2001 mazda protege will not start

well, with all that you have changed the only two possible things that are left PCM and the ECM....

Do you have an alarm system on this vehicle? If you purchased this car second hand it may have something that is inhibiting the engine from firing. From what you have told us here that would be where I would start looking.

I really hope this is helpfull

I have a 1998 mazda protege and i am getting no spark or it wont start, I changed the plugs and wires, the distributor and the crank sensor...there is no power to the fuel pump relay also... please avise.....

the first thing is to scan computer for codes, and also pay attention to the anti theft system, if the key chip is bad car will not start, then check coil,

How do I change spark plugs on a 2001 Mazda Protege es model ?

that rubber ring is the bottom of the spark plug wire boot you will have to get this out before you can get the plug out. no special tools needed except socket long extension and ratchet. just remove the wires or coil over ignition coils however your car is setup, install socket and remove the old plug.
