Bad tires. If your steering wheel shakes its your front tire. Not then its the back.

SOURCE: I get a shudder when applying the brakes(

If you purchased the least expensive rotors from your parts house, they tend to not store them properly and cause bigger issues. Have the rotors machined at their expense or replaced at their expense.

Steering wheel shakes when brakes are applied at highr speeds like highway...

When your steering wheel shakes at highway speeds when you apply your brakes, this is caused by warped rotors in the front. This is curable by having the rotors machined if they're thick enough or replacing them.Don't forget to install new pads or hardware also.I hope this tip helped!!!!

Can i drive in other gears on the highway besides being in drive...I have a 99 Lincoln continental? ?

you should use the highest gear possible to allow over drive to kick in, other gears will slow and limit the speed you can drive ,and stress the tranny

Why does my 1998 Cadillac Deville make the steering wheel shake when I brake at fast speeds ? It is very bad and would like to have repaired.

Your front rotors are warped. If they are in good shape and thick enough they may be able to turn them and make them true again.

If they are in bad shape or to thin they will need to be replaced. Check the amount of brake pad left while you are checking the rotors. If the pads are 2-4 mm they are ready to be replaced.

It also won't hurt to check the calipers to make sure the pistons move freely and check the caliper slides to make sure they are not frozen as well.

Honda civic 1.6A vibrating problem. Manufacture year 2008. Have driven for just 2 years & 1 mth, clocked only 27,300 km to-date

does it vibrate at highway speeds or sitting still at idle? the highway speed vibration could be tires out of balance. the idle speed vibration could be weak engine mount or idle speed too low.

Every time i press on the brakes on highway, i get a bad shake. my car is a 2001 mitsub eclipse GT. changed tires, still no good, wondering if i warp the rotors?

Warped rotors on the frontwheels will cause the steering wheel to shake from side to side. You may also want to have the tie-rod ends checked.

We had two new tires put on the front with a front end alignment and supposedly a wheel balance. We noticed the Jeep "shimey" when we break coming off a highway when it wasn't prior.

Take the car back and have the tires re-balanced. Also have the front brake rotors checked to see if they are warped. If your front rotors are warped it will give you a shimmying effect when you apply the brakes coming to a stop. If they are warped you can either have them "turned" to bring them true again, but sometimes the rotors are inexpensive enough to just replace because even though you turn them there is a chance they will warp again in a few days.

Front end vibrates when braking at highway speeds

Most common cause for this is rotors that have become warped. It is not uncommon if you drive fast and brake hard OR live in hilly country or with heavy loads. The brakes get hot - the more they are used the hotter they may get. When they cool they do not cool evenly. If there is enough of the rotor left it may be resurfaced to true it. However - the thinner it gets the less heat it can handle. When rotors reach a minimum thickness (stamped on the rotor) they must be replaced.

2002 Camry: 35000 miles. This is a city driven car. When I was on the highway, and applied my brakes at 70mph, the brake peddle was pulsating erratically. I had my rotors checked thinking they could be...

Re-check again, that's what rotors do when warped, but only when the pedal is applied. If you let off and the pulsation goes away, it's the rotors.

Rotor life

No, the stuff installed from the factory sometimes is junk. a good aftermarket set of rotors will prolong the life of them.
