Do i have to add fluid to my distick?

No, Monica, you have to add dipstick to your fluid. ? Don't stay clueless, lurnn !
Amazing. I just re-read your post (over and over), and it made sense. Really, I'm sorry for ribbing you, and you are not clueless, you just don't know how to talk to mechanics!

If the oil is really dirty- been there a long time, or you know, black and syrupy- then , yes, do change it with a new oil filter too. Probably not causing it to die out, but oil is there to protect the engine from burning out all the moving parts inside it. That's why it's so important to keep the oil full on the dipstick, and clean. Just like the anti-freeze, too, another big concern for your toyota. When you get it running again, the clean oil will make a difference, it will run better. For dying, check fuel...check or have someone put in a new gas filter. Start somewhere. Good luck. Post back for more!

1989 ford ranger custom 2.3l. how long is the dipstick supposed to be? the one that came with mine is too short, 25.25 inches, it appears that it should be 27.5 inches based on recommended oil...

junk yard or a pick-n-pull type yard is probably the cheapest way to go. if ya cant find one there i think you can order them off the internet cheep it will just cost more for shipping hope that helps.

MITsubishi L200 RUNNING ON OWN OIL

What about blow-by gas? Has it got excessive pressure? you can determine this by pulling the distick out while engine is running and check the pressure of the gas.

Still having oil coming out of distick

Whenever you have excessive pressure in the crankcase, it's usually a sign of severe engine wear. Typically piston rings that are no longer sealing well and combustion pressure is "blowing by" into the oil pan pushing oil and vapor out of the engine wherever it can. It's time to rebuild the engine.

Where is it located to add transmission fluid in 2004 saab

You have to unbolt the distick to check the fluid. Its on the lower, front side of the drivers side, left of the battery and straight down, behind 2 hoses. My dipstick is green (Aero) and is easier to remove from under the car.

Seems transmission gear shift problem

Pull the distick and smell the oil. If it's discoloured (black or dark brown) you know the transmission friction plates are burnt and needs a rebuilt.
Cheers
