The transmission filter is located inside the transmission pan. Should take you around an hour or so to drain and drop pan replace filter and replace pan. Thanks for using FixYa!

Can you unbolt the transmission pan bolts and remove the seal without messing up the transmission? I have a terrible leak around the transmission pan, and it loses pressure after a few minutes of driving. As long as I'm pouring the transmission fluid in, the vehicle stays in gear.

Could a dirty transmition filter cause you to just lose reverse

negative, dirty transmission can restrict some flow to your transmission starving the lubrication and wear the transmission out sooner. if the car drive and shift fine is not your filter. I assumed you have an automatic transmission and lost reverse completely, being 1994 and must have high mileage, have you ever had transmission flush or transmission fluid change? does your transmission has proper amount of fluid in it. Is your transmission leaking fluid slowly? loosing reverse its a sign you transmission is worn out. nothing you can do but rebuilt it or replace it. At the junk yard it will cost about 400-500 bucks and labor run about 300-350. To rebuilding your's 900-1500 bucks including labors. Get use save lots of money. hope that help some ..good luck
