Spark plug and wire changing.

I have a 1995 Pontiac Trans Sport van that has the 3.8 engine and I cannot fit my arms between the engine and the fire wall to change the 3 rear spark plugs and wire for this van. Not enough clearance. I also tried to put the van on ramps to see if I could due it from below and the exhaust is in the way. Any suggustions?

Hello, I have a 95 TS and I was able to change the rear spark plugs. It was a little difficult, but there is enough room to change it. I suggest changing one at a time, just to be sure you will fit the proper wire with the proper plug.Anyway, the Haynes manual, suggests for 3.4 engine, to take off the "dog bone" (the engine torque struts mounted in front) from the top and than pull as much as possible, with a strap, the engine to the front. I tried this and it worked. You can rotate the engine enough to make room for the hand and the tools. You can try this, but just try first to put something under the engine, for the 3.8 engine. For 3.4 is not necessary, because the engine will stay wit no problem.I hope this will help. Good luck.

If you can pull them off one at a time you might run them thru by using a cloths hanger and use a long screw driver to press them back on

1997 pontiac trans sport engine was running went into house for wallet came out and engine had died. tried to restart and it fires but sounds like not firing on all cylinders or timing had jumped. is there...

I would pull plugs from each cylinder see what is not firing. You may need new coil if any of the cylinders are not getting spark. Also animals this time of year need warm places to sleep squirls love to eat plug wires.

Where can i have a spark plug's schema of the pontiac transport 1994 3.1L ?

If you're looking for the firing order diagram, this is it:

FIRING ORDERS NOTE: To avoid confusion, remove and tag the spark plug wires one at a time, for replacement. If a distributor is not keyed for installation with only one orientation, it could have been removed previously and rewired. The resultant wiring would hold the correct firing order, but could change the relative placement of the plug towers in relation to the engine. For this reason, it is imperative that you label all wires before disconnecting any of them. Also, before removal, compare the current wiring with the accompanying illustrations. If the current wiring does not match, make notes in your book to reflect how your engine is wired. Fig. 1: 3.1L Engine Firing Order: 1-2-3-4-5-6 Distributor Rotation: Clockwise 91092g13.gif
Fig. 2: 3.4L Engine Firing Order: 1-2-3-4-5-6 Distributorless Ignition 91092g14.gif
Fig. 3: 3.8L Engine Firing Order: 1-6-5-4-3-2 Distributorless Ignition 91092g18.gif

When putting van in gear the engine runs rough

how about putting the van in drive with one foot down hard on the brake and rev the engine, does it smooth out now? if it smooths out, i would pull the air cleaner tube to the throttle body and spray the throttle body with carb cleaner, be careful if using the red tube, I have had it blow off before into the intake, not good, open the accelerator and spray it out really good, it will to start until all the cleaner clears out.

undo fuel pipe where it exits the fuel pressure regulater and turn engine over , use bucket and rag to catch pumped fuel , do this for half gallon and reconnect ,, then take spark plugs out and clean with easy start (eather) and replace , should start fine now ,
