2002 Jetta 1.8Turbo trunk won't open....

I saw several posted problems that have the same one that I do I saw Shastanova's and Planenator's answer I took the fabric off from the trunk and sure enough there was a black plastic part that it seems to be broken and trigers a steel bar 6-8 inches long that doesn't let it pull all the way. Does anyone know what the part is called or where can we find it? pretty much everything else seems to work the remote and the part that is locate inside the door or I should say next to the door.

Not sure but soundslike you are talking about the lock actuator. common for the plastic cover over the latch to break and a small piece will lodge in the latch keeping it from moving , check that before replacing anything

Testimonial: "I checked and it is broken but then how can I replace parts? don't know where to buy them or how to ask for them since I don't have a name for it"

Gas door won't open

FIRST: try using the gas release lever from inside the car with the driver side door closed. My 2006 Jetta gas release lever would only work if the driver door were shut and I pulled the release from the inside car interior. Turns out it was a severed door wire (NOT THE RELEASE CABLE). Thus when the door was open, it stretched the damaged wire and so none of the door controls worked unless the door was closed. ie windows, trunk release, and gas release. It was a $600 repair at the dealership, parts and labor! :(

I have a 96 jetta, and my trunk release button doesn't work. how do I fix it. Plus I put the key in the trunk to open it, its always worked, now it doesn't. I need my trunk, I have a small child...

The trunk release rod is made of plastic and it is adjustable, it came apart. You have to fold down the back seat, remove the trunk lid liner and pull on on the plastic piece connected to the latch mechanism on the deck lid. It is a little difficult but is the only way to get in. You can buy the plastic piece from V.W. its cheap. When you install the new piece, use a screw driver to close the latch and try to open it with your key fob or button, this way you won't shut it and not be able to open it because it is not adjusted properly. there should be very little play (movement) between pod and latch if adjusted correctly. The rod connects to a vacuum pod for the key fob to operate the trunk remotely. good driving

My 2002 Jetta TDI trunk door will not open either with the Pull switch lever inside the driver's side door, nor with the Key, and not even with the Hand lever inside the trunk. Every attempt to open trunk...

Crawl through the rear seats and remove the trim panel with a Philips screwdriver. Most likely the actuator rod has come off at the lock mechanism. Once the trim panel is off you will be able to open the deck lid by hand.

On my 2002 vw jetta the trunk will not open i have tried both the lever on side of door as well as the button on my key i have also crawled into the trunk from the backseat to use the emergency handle...

· There is no motor per say, (a servo that pulls the cable, youd should hear it, every time other then unlocking with key, or pulling inside emergency latch) the cable that connects to the trunk latch mechanism. There is a servo that opens the trunk when you unlock with key fob, or driver side activation. In the trunk pulling on emergency handle, it is pure cable action. One of the most reported problems is that a trunk will not close. In this instance the usual cause is a broke spring in trunk latch. In your case I am guessing that the cable has become detached from locking mechanism. I have not had this problem, however if I did, my first attempt would involve removing the trunk lid linker, there are about 8 or so screws (with felt on them so they are not so noticeable), remove all screws, liner should almost fall off when all screws are removed. I then could inspect latch, manually unlock, then stand outside of care to fix problem: reattach cable, replace latch, replace cable, there may be some other alternatives depending on specific situation.

It is your wiring coming out of the trunk on the left side. One of the wire are cut because in cold weather when you open the trunk, wire can't move easily in the plastic tube. Sorry for my english.
