Have you checked all the instrument panel fuses and check the dimmer to the dash lights? my be just a bad or dirty dimmer switch if you have done those things.

SOURCE: dashboard warning brake light stays on continuosly nissan altima

Try this, Since you are applying the hand brake. Manually pull up on the emergency pedal and see if the light goes out. If this does work then you could have one of several problems. but, I am thinking that you might be able to adjust the brake tensioner if this car has one.

SOURCE: 97 Altima dashboard brake light stays on

Check your brake fluid level in the engine compartment. Its located on the rear RH side of the engine compartment, its a white/clear resevoir connecting to a large black circular object. If the fluid is low, fill to proper level, also I would recommend having your brake system checked as there may be a leak. If the fluid is fine and at the proper level, you may have a damaged/broken brake fluid level sensor or damaged/broken Emergency brake switch. Hopefully this helps....please rate thanks!!

Basically, all the master warning light does is let you know that there's some other warning you should pay attention to. According to the 2015 Nissan Altima owner's manual, when the ignition is in the ON position, the master warning light will turn on with any of the following warnings:
-Loose fuel cap
-Door open
-Trunk open
-Low fuel
-Low windshield wiper fluid
-Check tire pressure warning
-No key detected (happens if the Nissan Intelligent Key is left outside the vehicle)
-Release parking brake (this should occur any time you start the car after setting the parking brake)

Slave cylinder 2001 nissan altima

Check the linkage under the dashboard. Many companies use cheap plastic clips that get very brittle over time.

I have a 1988 Nissan Altima and the dash lights went out. Is this a fuse or something else? If fuse, where is it? I didn't see one for the dashboard.

The fuse should be located under the dash on the driver side & fuses are also located under the hood. The best thing to do is to check your owners manual & it will point you directly to where your doom fuse is located. Also check to make sure your dimmer switch isn't turned off or low for the dash.
