Transmission in drive, makes first shift smoothly but won't make second shift into high gear. have replaced both input and output sensors, still wont shift.

Fluid at proper level, good color and no burned odor. no noises when taking off or through first shift. at about 35 to 40mph, only rpm continues to rise with increased accelerator pressure. is it possible that tcm control could cause this? nice running little car if i could get this issue resolved.

Replaced input and output speed sensors for erratic speedometer. Now the speedometer remains at 0. Anyone have a suggestion on what else could be wrong?

input and out put speed sensors tell the TCM and the ECM the difference between engine rpms and transmission input roms so that the correct gear ratio can be selected
A speedo sensor reads the out put shaft (drive line ) shaft and refers to road speed for speed and odometer readings and to calculate the fuel consumption rate
it is possible that you have replaced the wrong sensor

44re 1999 durango won't start from start easily. High RPM and SLOW start (like not in 1st)

the second code is govener pressure sensor. the pressure is to low. the first code is sensor voltage to low, i would check the wiring where it plugs into trans for corrosion. also make sure the kick down cable on the throttle is connected and not broke because this cable controls the line pressure.

2001 PT Cruiser Automatic won't shift gears

OK... brains are expensive. It sounds like your PT STARTS OK, but keeps your TRANSMISSION locked.

Many transmissions have a 'lock' that is coupled to the car BRAKES. So the transmission may not allow SHIFTING if the BRAKE SWITCH is not sensed as 'brakes applied'.

APPLIED BRAKES = OK TO START/SHIFT. So it's possible a defective switch is your problem?

Find really GREAT information here:

How To Solve The PT Cruiser Transmission Problems

And there is this: "You Probably have a 604 41 TE auto trans (this is a four speed automatic trans)and if this is the case. Then you need to have the input and the output turbine sensor's replaced,(aka speed sensor) same thing different name. These sensors are cheap and have a high failure rate due to high temps the trans produces."

Can I replace the transmission solonoid on a 98 Town and Country Van without resetting the computer?

It depends. Are there codes in the computer now? Has it bee reset since you replaced the input speed sensor? If the codes are still in there, the transmission may still be in limp-in mode.

Your transmission is computer controlled. Trying to diagnose or repair it without the ability to interface with the computer that controls it about the same as surfing the internet with no monitor. If you push the right buttons and click your mouse just right, you might get to the page you are looking for (not likely, but possible). However, when you do get there, you still won't know it....

Car jerks when you shift gears

If that oil is transmission fluid, you may be low on fluid. That would cause harsh shifts. Make sure your transmission is full.
Is it just reverse and drive that ****? Do second and third shift smooth? If so, you may have a too-high idle.
If idle is good, and your transmission didn't get low on fluid, then I would suggest you drain and refill the transmission, and install a new transmission filter while you have the bottom pan off. Usually, you can buy a filter and pan gasket as a kit.
