Hi, I recently bought a 1999 Audi A6 2.8 Quattro. I think there is a problem with the cooling system. The Water light came on two days ago and I filled it with water. This morning the light came back on and I can see that the cooling tank is empty. I can't see any leaks. Could this just be that the cooling system needs to be flushed? I am basically looking for some advice before I take it into a workshop to have it looked at and having to pay megga bucks. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks MR Scary. I will give this a go this afternoon. Could a smaller battery than the prescibed battery size maybe lead to the cooling system not kicking in resulting in water/coolant burn?? Just thinking, cause the battery that is in there is way too small for the car in my opinion. My Polo Playa has a much bigger battery in it than the Audi.

Cool. Will give both the suggestions a go and see what happens.

It may Have just needed More Water than What you put into it and Took it from the Overflow Tank. This is Very Common. Refill the Overflow Tank and Check the Coolant Level again to make sure that it is Full. If you still see no Leaks, It should be Just Fine. Please Rate my Solution, I need all the Help that I can Get! Thanks!

It Could Effect the Electrical System Resulting in Problems like this. I would have the Appropriate Battery Installed and see if that Does not Help. No Problem on the Help!

Audi a6 quattro 1999 cooling system light is on ,how to fix or what fo i do?

Hi Manuel, That warning light indicates the coolant level is low. To attend the problem make sure the engine is cold. Open the filer cap and the bleeding nipple. Open the cabin heater control to fully hot and fill until all air bubbles have been evacuated from the cooling system (top up with the required mixture of water and coolant/anti freeze, about 40 percent coolant sixty water) When all bubbles have been evacuated, close the bleed nipple and replace the filler cap. Set the cabin temperature as required. If coolant is at correct level and system has been bled it is possible the sender unit may have become defective. Regards John

have you checked your calipers? They may be sticking putting lots of strain onto the drive shaft causing it to vibrate.

With all the recent snow and grit on the roads you may have some caught in the mechanism meaning it cant release.

Just a small thought to start to determine the problem.
