This is a common problem with the C5 A6 models. Before you replace the fuse for the windows (I think it's number 14, but i don't have a manual in front of me - Anyway, it's the 10A fuse that's blown!) Look under the back of both front seats and you'll see a light that illuminates the floor for the back seats. Rem ove the light from each seat by prying it out with a flat screwdriver and disconnect both leads. Replace the fuse, and your windows (moon roof and interior lights as well) should now work. The lumbar support causes something to short out the lights. I've tried insulating the lights on mine, but the problem always comes back so I just disconnected them altogether.

I have the same issues look forward to trying this fix. My 2002 A6 Quatro Avante does not have window fuses? Do you think I will still have the above fuses mentioned under my seats? I hope so, much easier than my other options I have been offered. Thanks again.

Hi, many thanks for the tip. i'd never have found that problem on my old Audi A6 avant [1999]. I've searched and unplugged all sorts trying to find what blows fuse #14. i did notice it was ok until i jumped about in the drivers seat.
I unplugged the drivers side rear foot well light where it meets the drivers seat underneath the front transmission side, a two wire connector, [red with purple, black with purple] and all seems good!
    great info. many thanks

First off you need to check the fuses.  The fuse panel is located behind a cover on the very LH side of the dash.  Remove this cover using a small flat screwdriver.  On the inside of this cover is a list of the fuses and what they go to.  Find the fuse for the window and look at the number location also on this panel only its molded w/ the panel.  Remove the fuse and even if it looks ok install a new fuse of the same amperage.  If this does not fix it.  More than likely its the master window switch that has failed.  Its a common issue on these

I have 1999 A6 2.4 Avant. When the key fob is operated to open or close the doors, all the windows open. After closing them using the manual switches the windows continue to make a noise as though they are trying to close - but they stay closed. it does not seem to be the limit switches. To avoid flattening the battery (again) I have stopped the problem by removing th 20 Amp fuse for central locking.
Any ideas please. John

Many thanks for the suggestions but the problem has "gone away"!
I took my car to an Audi main dealer for an annual service - they found no problems and the computer indicated that there had not been a problem. The only things I can think of, are that they always valet the car when serviced and maybe they moved something that cured the fault or even that the cleaning moved some of the silicone grease in the window slides (that I put in to try to cure the fault). Hope this helps someone. John

2000 A6 avant. 3 windows open and close but driver's window won't close. Passenger window also went down of its own accord but went back up using switch.

sounds like your window switch is faulty, if you take it to a garage or an auto electrician they will be able to test the switch and the motor
