1996 Mitsubishi Montero tail gate off hinges

You might want to check if a recall was issued for the lift gate hinges. At one time a year or two were recalled for faulty parts. If you bought used parts you may have bought defective ones.

You can take the panel off on the inside of the tail gate, and open it by manually pulling on the linkage rods at the same time.

1. make sure the bulb is fully seated.

2. the clip is hinged--like a gate-- at one end. Swing the "gate" shut. Its center will contact (jam on) the back of the bulb. Push in on the :"gate" and then downward on the end that is not the hinge.

The new ones will have instructions with them.

The door and the glass just needs some penetrating lubricant( WD 40 ), just a few squirt will do on hinges and locks!
The drainage hose would be under the passenger side( RiGHT FRONT SiDE) glove box, look down there, u will see a black hose from the center that houses ur A/C & heater housing! Lift up ur floor covering to see it clearly. check and clean the hose it might already been clogged by moss and dirt or dislocated thru the drain holes on the flooring! Hope that helps out! Taah!

you can remove those bars to shut the gate BUT when you do theres nothing to hold gate from dropping all the way down to bumper. hope this helps!!!!

The hose runs along the frame and up through the tail gate on the two piece tail gate, on the single lift gate the hose runs from the top where the hinge's is located that hold the lift gate. Common for the host to crack there, causing it to leak before it goes out to the wipers. Good luck and hope this helps.

Assuming your spare is underneath & not on the tail gate; do the following: remove the plate on top of your rear bumper & you will see a steel nut. Take your spare tire wrench or a socket & rachet & unscrew that baby until you feel that tire on your foot!

Remove the interior trim panel which will not be easy since the gate is up ---- you can then access the lock mechanism and will probably find a bent linkage rod or a broken plastic retainer clip.

drill it out and make a pin for it...thats the only thing i can suggest.
