1997 BMW 740i: When I first start it up it will run fine until I depress half or more throtle then the CEL light would blink. After that it runs with no power and struggles to even maintain 35 mph speed. Wouldn't accelerate easily past 3000rpm. When I come to a stop light I would feel the engine missing on multiple cylenders and whole car shakes. If I turn the ignition off, disconnect, and reconect the MAF, then start, the missfiring goes away and it idles fine and drives fine if I keep it pampered. No top end. No power.

remove the front 02sensor and drive the car like that, remove means complety take it apart from exaust, if problem goes away or gets so much better then your catalitic converter at the exaust is restricted and need a new one

for the cheapest TEMPORARY solution get some fuel injector cleaner and get on the gas fo about 5 mile at like 100 - 120 miles an hour thats what idid to mine last week hasnt wanted to die out since. good luck.

I just came up with that exact issue in my 2003 with 98K police crown vic. And the last time I had this issue in a 2001 police Crown vic it was the crank shaft position sensor. A $20 part and about 30 mins to put it in. located near the bottom of the engine. I had to un bolt the A/C compressor and push it out of the way a few inches to get to the sensor. If you have about 100K mile on it and its an idled heavy police car, this sensor should be changed out anyway. It can leave you on the road dead and some dealers have a hard time find out whats wrong as the OBD 2 does not see it as a problem when it goes bad or becomes touchy as I think mine is.

Sounds like a fuel problem , have you changed the fuel filter in a while ? could be the knock sensor or the knock sensor module needs to be replaced.

Drop in to an Autozone, or Pep Boys, or similar big parts store & they will usually scan for codes free. This will hopefully eliminate all the guess work, or at least point everyone in right direction for better diagnosis. If not obvious from codes what the problem is, get back to us and we'll help you out.
