Is the check engine light on ?
If the venting system for the tank is leaking, the warning light should be on.
A shop could check for vapor leaks with an exhaust gas analyzer.

Check to make sure its not a leak. If its a leak, there is a product at Most Auto part stores that will stop a leak even when its leaking gas. If this doesnt work, you would have to remove the tank for repair or replacement.

Have them check EGR tubes, and any hoses, or tubes running to the exhaust. My guess is ones leaking while driving & getting drawn up into the incoming air at the cowl.

I have had my share of cars with gas smells and these are very serious problems. Do not drive without a window open so as not to feel the affects of the gas vapor.
One reason could be that you have filled the cars gas tank too high and the fumes are getting into the car. Another cause is gas has gotten into your trunk and this leads directly to your back seat.
If I can get more info from you, I could pin point your problem.
