The only way to deal with these bad boys is to re-jet!!! go on line to RIPSPEED or alike give them your car details and your needs for the carbs and a jetting kit will be sorted for you.Just remember with more power the less your M.P.G!!!! Good-luck...

SOURCE: where doe's that spring go on rear brake drums 1996 chevy truck every thing is at top not at bottom, star wheel adjuster?

there should be several springs. first there are (2) real short springs that hold the shoes to the dust cover/back plate. they go in the center of each shoe. then there is a short spring that goes at the bottom where the adjuster is located. there should be a hole in each shoe. finally there is a long spring that goes at the top where your brake cylinder is and this is what gets attched last after your emergancy brake levers are placed between the shoes .

SOURCE: i have an 1974 chevy pu, 350 sbmall block

That engine is a good solid workhorse that isn't difficult to set up. First, set the ignition timing to 8degrees btc (advanced) they like it there. Set with vacuum advance disconnected and plugged. Next, while it's running, look down into the carb and make sure you dont see any fuel dripping into the venturis. If it is, you need to lower the float level a bit. Put a vacuum gauge on ti attached to any mainfold port. Then adjust the idle screws in the carb base till you have the highest possible vacuum reading. Work with one screw, then the other, then go back to the first one, then the second to get it fine tuned. If the carb has an electric throttle solenoid, do this with the solenoid disconnected and the idle speed turned down at the linkage to the lowest point that it will continue to run. Note: if the vacuum gauge bounces or reads substantially lower than 18 inches, you may have an internal engine problem...bounce is valves, very low may be timing chain. Make sure that you are getting 12v to the coil and that the cap, rotor and wires are in good condition and that the fly-weights under the rotor are free and not rusted in place. When finished, re-connect the solenoid and the advance hose and bring engine idle up to about 800-825rpm using idle screw on linkage If solenoid is always on, set linkage screw at 800, solenoid a bit higher
I suggest that before you begin any testing, you do a compression test. The numbers are not as important as that ther are close to each other...you should not have one thats at 80 and the remainder at 100 for example. Usually you should have at least 150 in each cyl. Look carefully at the spark plugs...they should be tan on the electrode porcelan, should have no residue of any kind and should be properly gapped. I'm sure I forgot something but doing what I said should make it run far better. Make sure firing order is correct...18436572, bost common to cross are 5 and 7. Any questions, just ask.

1985 chevy c20 vacuum problems

on this truck the vacuum is pretty basic, im guessing you have a 305 (5.0) or a 350 (5.7), on the front of the engine compartment near the fan shroud somewhere (if it is still intact) you should have a diagram of all the vac lines
you probably have a quadrajet carb, if you are mechanical and patient they are not hard to rebuild

blowing out the carb with carb and choke cleaner isnt a bad idea either, have someone keep it running and slowly run like 1/4 to 1/2 a can down the carb spraying all around

I have an edelbrock 1500 carb. in a 350 chevy. I want to adjust it because It hesitated when you opened up the four barrel. I think someone already tried to adjust it. I don't know how many turns out they...

The turns out is an idle miixture adjustment. I hope that your camshaft is set up for your new carb. You may need to mess with your ignion timing. Those engineers that set things up are usually not wrong.

Replaced Carb with a Edelbrock electric choke and now the truck will not start...Put new distirbortor on and new plugs and new wires...

The choke may be out of adjustment if the choke blade is fully closed you may have to adjust until partially open. The other possibility is the distributor is not installed correctly or the plug wire may be mixed up.

Edelbrock 1406 3 years old on a Chevy 350 corvette. Starts and runs great when cold but when it heats up to running temp. and I shut off the engine it will not start!! Has great spark, compression, and fuel....

Check the choke and make sure that the choke is all the way open when hot. The choke should only be closed when cold. The choke can be adjusted on the side by loosening the 3 screws and wathcing the butterfly valve.

I am going from a qudrajet carb to an Edelbrock 600 with manual choke. I am not sure how the linkage switches over. I am working on a 1985 chevy 4x4 with a sb 350

If your staying with the stock intake manifold the edelbrock wont fit unless you install a adapter plate. And i would advise you not to install it will not seal properly.I would install a edelbrock intake manifold and carburetor as a matched set.You can purchase a edelbrock carburetor and intake manifold from advance auto parts that's designed for your vehicle.

High idle won't shut off, uses obscene amounts of gas...

If you have a carb, and nothing but a carb, you probably need to have your carb adjusted. If your carb has an automatic choke, it could be stuck. Check and make sure the choke's butterfly valve (the one in the top of the carb) is opening up once your engine has warmed up. If it doesn't, disconnect the valve from the auto choke and manually open it, that should change idle. Do not drive with the choke disconnected. Write me back if that doesnt solve the problem.

Help Please

It does not sound like a timing issue because it only misfires when hot... sounds like choke adjustment ... if its elec... rotate cover of choke so it is leaner. Hope this helps
