My 2005 gmc sierra has a small hole in the transfer case

Transfer case started leaking. The mechanic at the dealership said it caused by a metal clamp, and it usually occurred on the diesel models. When they got the new transfer case the clamp the part had redesigned with a larger clamp. When looking up this problem I found a lot of people on pages with the same problem. Why hasn't GMC issued a recall for this ?

SOURCE: 2004 GMC Sierra 1500 4wd. Auto transfer case light issue

I have the same problem. It is intermittent and sometimes shows up with service transmission message. To get rid of it just put the truck in park, press the 2 high button and shift into drive while it is still flashing. I will worry about it more when it blows up. You can drive with the vehicle showing the solid neutral and it seems to make no difference. It has to be a wake up problem between the control modules. It only happens on start up.

SOURCE: holes in the transfer case of a 2002 gmc duramax

well there are a few options, depending on the wear of your transfercase you can just replace the rear housing and install new pump clips from gm, jb weld and other bonding agents will not fix the problem but rather prolong it, I just pick up a reman this week for my own truck that was only$1100 great deal compared to junkyards

Have a gmc 2005 sierra the 4x4 doesn't work. when I press the 4x4 button blinks a few times, and then makes like grinding sounds,it sounds that is coming from transfer case, but never engage and ligth goes...

Not good! there is a sensor in your transfer case that senses that you are now in four wheel drive if your transfer case does not lock in it will set a code and the light will flash and default back to two wheel drive. check the fluid level in the transfer case and front differential for a sign of internal failure. that is causing the grinding sound.

Have a leak on my gmc searria transfer case and it is not the gasket could it be from the bolts

maybe but have the case serviced with new fluid or do it yourself then clean the leak area and when it dries spray foot powder on the area then after a week you can see exactly where the leak is

Where do I put the fluid in on my 2000 gmc transfer case

If You look at the transfer case you will see a Plug which requires a hex socket( allen socket), you should see 2 of them, one up high and another one closer to the bottom.

remove the lower plug and drain old fluid out, replace lower plug and remove upper plug, fill the upper hole with correct fluid. until it starts to pour out of the hole. let sit until it starts to slowly drip, and then replace upper plug

I have a 2005 GMC Sierra. After driving for a couple of miles the 'service 4wd' warning will display and not go away. The 4wd is fine. Do I need to reset a chip?

BY YOU HAVING AUTOMATIC 4 WHEEL DRIVE.YOU HAVE A SHIFT CONTROL MODULE IN TRANSFER CASE.IT CONTROLS YOUR 4 WHEEL DRIVE SYSTEM BY RECEIVING INFORMATION FROM SPEED SENSOR ON TRANSFER CASE OUT PUT SHAFT.TAKE IT TO DEALERSHIP.THEY WILL HAVE TO FIX IT.

Transfer case

What do you need to know? It leaks from a hole in the case and needs rebuilt? These are common for the pump wearing a hole in the rear case half.
