Change the brake light switch on the brake pedal arm. Go down to the parts store and ask for a new brake liight switch for your Pathfinder and look up under the dash where the brake pedal arm goes and you will see the switch. You will need to unplug the wires to your old one and disconnect it and install the new one the same way. It is pretty much self adjusting once the brake pedal is released. If the brake light does not go out adjust the switch pin to be longer so it will depress when the pedal is released

If you lift the hand brake you should find an adjustment nut (I think it is 10MM). Tighten that and you should be good to go. Be careful, it doesn't take much to adjust - turn gradually/slowly.

i hope i was able to help you with your problem! tc!

SOURCE: Non working brake lights in Nissan Altima

make sure the button is working, it may need to be replaced. with your foot off the brake peddle, it is on upper part of brake peddle arm. when you let off brake peddle it pushes button in to shut lights off. it may just be stuck in, spray a little lubracant on it if it's stuck and push in manually several times to loosen.

Look up arm of brake pedal for a switch that gets depressed when pedal is pushed. Probably near top.

1995 Nissan Pathfinder Brake Lights stay on (even after new switch installed)

See if the rubber gaskets are at the top of the brake pedal. If you see two wholes, then they are not there. You might have to go to the dealler for those parts. I used a carriage bolt on the brake switch side for now with ducktape.

Brake light will not go out, replaced switch still stays on will go off if i unplug new switch, is there a relay for brake lights? Sorry i have a 1996 Nissan Pathfinder 4 wheel drive

Two things. First there is an adjustment for the switch. Try this first. Second you bought a bad switch. When the switch is working right it kills the power to the lights, like unplugging it. So you problem is still with the switch or adjustment.

The abs light stays on and the brake lights stay on even when the ignition switch is off

check the brake light switch. it is located under the drivers side of the dash on the lever the brake pedal is attached to. If the switch is stuck in the on position it will cause all of the symptoms you have described.

1995 nissan pathfinder brake light stays on, and the high beam doesn't work.

These are probably two different issues. If neither high beam comes on you have a bad dimmer switch. If it's only one headlight then the light needs replaced.
Look behind the metal arm that your brake pedal is attached to. Somewhere along it there will be a switch with a little button that touches the arm. This switch probably needs to be readjusted. It's what engages the brake lights.

Brake light switch

not positive on this model, but most cars have the same style set up for the brake lights, as you depress the brake pedal, it moves away from the switch causing the circuit to close and light the brake lights. hope this helps

Brake lights do not go off even if car is not running

Your brake light switch is broken. The switch has a spring that is supposed to disengage the switch when you let off the brake pedal, it's either stuck, or broken. A new brake light switch should resolve your issue.

I hope this helps you, and I wish you luck on your repair.
