I am working on a van for a family friend, at first the thing would start for a brief moment idle high and stall. the van was loosing power uphills and one day just did not want to start. I removed the Throttle body, cleaned it out, It was extremely gummed up, so the iac sensor was replaced, along with the MAF, and Tps. It also got a new fuel filter put in. So after all that it starts and you can keep it running by feathering the gas but if you let go it stalls right out. I did notice the fuel pump is sounding sluggish, and when I removed the fuel filter, the feed line coming poured out varnished gas along with some black gunk...almost like broken down hose. The van has been sitting for a year....also the tube that feeds from the egr valve to the upper intake is missing a connection that is making it loose, but I pushed it into place while the owner started it and kept it alive, it back fires through this sometimes...just trying to give all the info I have I know its long winded. Also the battery was dead, but we charged it and it starts the car but died after playing with it, the OBD 1 codes that came up with the new parts on were 34 and 21...MAF and TPS? Any advice would be awesome, the engine is a 3.8

Wow you have replaced a lot of stuff. Lets go back to the Fuel pump. When you replaced it did you replace the hose between the pump and the sending unit. These are common for splitting. Have you hooked up a fuel pressure gauge to check what pressure you have? It should be real close to 13 psi and should raise to at least 18 or 19 when you pinch off the return line.

maybe your iac valve is not working? it takes place of a choke or temp sender to computer could be bad which controls t I.A.C. known as the idle control valve,do you have any codes?

when you shut the truck off is/was there a swishing/bubbling noise coming from the tank?
Theres an orange rubber in the fuel tank that connects the fuel pump to the sender lines. if that rubber is torn you may get it to run but not stay running for more than a short period of time.

Check your IAC motor (Idle Air Control) It could be sticking open.
Ps. Might be called Idle Speed Control motor it depends on the make and i forget what chevy calls theres.

sounds like a vacuum leak at the manifold. spray wd40 or simillar around manifold to check for leaks. if you find a leak, engine will flare up.
