Sure sounds like a valve body issue to me, have you done any work yourself on it to get the reverse to go on drive?
Here is an article about valve body removal:

SOURCE: saturn shifter linkage

An easy fix would be to go tothe Junk Yard and pull off the parts you need .......in order to do this though I would advise getting a Haynes Manual (VERY VERY HELPFUL BOOK) for your car...Available at your local Auto parts Store (even if you dont do it yourself you should still get the book...it can save you a lot of time and money when it comes to knowing and working on your vehicle)

SOURCE: 2001 saturn sc2 gets code 341&340 camshaft sensor

if you have high resistance in secondary ign. system (plug wires, ign.coil) this will cause this code to set. make sure you are using a high quality spark plug wire set. not from autozone!!! and denso non platinum tipped spark plugs. also use a diaelectric grease on plug wires to keep moisture out.

SOURCE: Everytime I put my car i park it goes into reverse.

It sounds like you have a damaged shifter cable. It is an adjustable cable but if it is that far out of adjustment then it is probably damaged. Replace it.

I have a 98 saturn sl1 and when shifting gears(park -drive) its jerks a bit. what does this means?

That can be a mount, but you would of said it jerks at all time from park to drive and when your driving. and also reverse.Going from park to drive is there a pause and do you hear a buzz noise then a gear change. If you did that would be the solenoid. So here it is from park to drive and the RPM is in range this is known also as a harsh up shift, it is mechanical in nature the clutch pack is taking more pressure than it need to achieve a gear change. In other word your transmission is mechanically worn

98 saturn won't shift out of park

There is a switch on the brake pedal, that activates a solenoid in the steering column, and the shifter, that releases them, either the switch,on the pedal,or the solenoid, are bad.

My car does switch gears, but before it goes to the next it jumps. Then it does every so often after that while I'm driving. Could it be that I need a new transmission or is it smaller then that. 98 Saturn...

well either you have a loose input shaft end nut inside the trans, which is about $500 to fix or you have a bad valve body in the trans which is about $1000 to fix or if you get lucky you got a bad pressure control solenoid, this would give you a very hard shift and bang into every gear and reverse gthats about $300 to fix. but your gonna have to take it to saturn to figure out which one it is,these local trans shops have no idea what they are doing

99 saturn sl2 has lost reverse

Reverse & 2nd gear share the same clutch pack.Usually when reverse goes out you will get wierd shifting into 2nd or 3rd.Most likey the Input shaft retaining nut has come loose inside the first clutch housing. It can be accessed from the trans end cover but it will take some disassembly. The trans doesn't have to come out to correct this problem.I repaired many saturns with this problem. The only parts you will have to buy is an end cover gasket(paper gasket) & 41/2 qts Trans fluid.Decent mechanice could do this in about 2-3 hrs or less. The service engine light is probally on due to trouble codes from the trans controller most likey DTC P0723 No 2nd gear.hope this helps
