Question about 1995 Volkswagen Golf

Clicking/Squealing When Turning Wheel

My 1995 Golf III began to squeal when I turned the steering wheel. Almost sounds like a belt squeal but only does it when I turn the wheel. Seems to get worse when the car has not been driven for a few hours and almost seems like power steering in nonexistant when the weather is wet. As the car warms up it seems to stop or at least minimize but recently it began to click when I turn to the right. Almost sounds like it is coming from front driver's side wheel. Any ideas what could be wrong with it?

Sounds like the belt needs replacement, or at least check the belt tension. Check your power steering fluid level and condition. Most power steering systems specify ATF fluid, so it should be red not black, brown, or milky. If it is black, the power steering has overheated for some reason. If its milky, it is contaminated by water. In either case, the fluid should be replaced.

Bad alignment or worn steering gear can cause the pump to have to work overtime. Have your alignment and front end checked. If these are fine, the pump or steering rack may have failed.

The clicking noise is likely a CV joint. Stick your head under the front of the car (properly chock the rear wheels first of course) and look for the rubber bellows looking things that go to the center of the front wheels. If there is any grease leaking from the CV boots near the wheel or the transmission, that is where your clicking noise is coming from.

Could be two problems. First the power steering; Check the tension of the drive belt for the power steering and the condition of the belt. If that appears to be OK, check the level of the fluid and its condition or apperance compared to new fluid that is recomended by the manufacturer. If that appears OK, it could possibly be the power steering pump it self. Second the clicking; It is most likely a bad CV (constant velocity) axle. Good Luck.

2004 Mitsubishi Outlander started squealing loudly when turning right

If it's the sound I'm thinking of you might just need a new belt or a pully. Typically water pump going out sounds like you have a turbo winding up and steering will growl.

Squealing noise from front end when turining the steering wheel eaither way

Well after speaking to my dad about it, (He knows a lot more than me) and he suggested that it might be the power steering belt. It could be either loose, or worn down. Either that, or it could be the power steering unit wearing down. You probably want to take it to a mechanic and get it fixed. (This is just going of the opinion of some older cars, but we're not positive.) Hope it helped anyways.

When turning wheel a squealing noise comes from the steering coloum.........seems like it might be worse going into a corner hard........may sound like something turning in the coloum itself...............

The squealing noise when turning the steering wheel happens in most cases when the power steering fluind is low. Check to see if there is power steering fluid in the reevoir. If not add fluid to the proper level and the squealing should stop. Good luck

When I go to turn the wheel in my 2000 ford ranger I hear loud squealing noises. I checked the power steering fluid and its full. What can it be?The squealing starts as soon as I turn the wheel to the left...

The power steering pump is normally connected or driven by the engine with a V-belt. A loose belt can cause squealing as soon as the power steering come under load (e.g. steering left or right while stopped).

Check the tension on the V-belt directly connected to the power steering pump. This may need replacement.

Hoep this helps.

Loud squealing noises when I turn the wheel of my 2000 ford range

It sounds like the power steering belt is too loose, tighten it up a bit but not too much just enough to make slipping belt stop.

1997 dodge avenger 2.0, belt squealing

Hi

The Power Steering Belt tension requires adjustment, to give it more tension, to cure the slipping, resulting in the squealing, or perhaps renewal, due to cracking or excessive wear.

Your Power steering Belt, belt is your primary problem.

Good Luck !

A FixYa Would Be Nice, Thank´s......John.
