The thermostat will show what the guage shows. the seal on the coolent bottle can be checked for tightness. so it could be a faulty sensor?

SOURCE: temperature gauge goes up all of the sudden

It sounds like you have air in the Cooling system and the bars leak permanent seal does not help. The sealer creates restrictions through out the water jackets and can cause the thermostat to stick. Replace the radiator cap and run the truck with the radiator cap on the first click and keep an eye on the over flow tank, refill the over flow as needed and make sure you have the heater on the highest setting to work out all the air in the system. Once all the air has worked it's way out of the system, then you can close the radiator cap to the second click to ensure full pressure is built up in your cooling system. Good luck and keep me posted.

Citroen xsara faults

from your description of the fault, i beiieve that you may have a coolant flow problem or the coolant level is low this happened on my citroen xsara recently and i found out i had a pin hole leak in the radiator as the coolant level drops in the resovoir it reaches a low level sensor that brings on the stop the car red warning light, a tin of rad weld cured my problem. oyher things to also check or change would be the inline flow temp sensor and the thermostat. good luck, hope i have been of some help. My temperature guage stays in the middle, is this ok?

Yes, the temperature gauge should normally stop in the middle, between the cold and hot points on the gauge. When the engine is cold the thermostat will be closed and will keep recirculating the coolant in the engine block until it warms up sufficiently. Then the temperature of the warm coolant will cause the thermostat to open the channel to the radiator to get rid of excess heat, which should stop the coolant from over heating. So the effect of the thermostat keeps the coolant at a fairly stable temperature. When the coolant runs low, it can't transfer enough heat to the radiator and the coolant and engine then over heats. Watch for radiator leaks under your car after you have been driving it. If the coolant goes low again fairly quickly you could have a leak in a hose or the radiator itself.

2000 Chevy Impala - Temperature gauge goes into the red quickly. I had cooling fan assembly replaced 2 months ago because car temperature gauge used to go into the red and sometimes stall.

yea they are right right undo the hoses from the coolant container to to the radiator and the hose from the radiator to the engine and let it all drain out then put it back on and put some new radiator fluid in the radiator until ist full and then put some more in the container for extra make sure to put both hoses back on

At first my 1997 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme (only has 59,000 miles) after driving for a while the temperature gauge would start to rise when idling but when I started driving the temperature would go back...

This sounds more like the thermostat is not opening as it should, instead of an ECM problem.

With the indications you state - goes down when heater activated - goes down when moving, that is what I would have checked first, not the cooling fan!

When you said you replaced everything, did that include the temperature sending unit?
The temperature sensor just operates the cooling fan or fans for the radiator.
The temperature sending unit operates the temperature gauge in the dashboard. If that thing is faulty, the gauge won't work right.
If you did change the sending unit, it could be possible that the computor is screwing it up, but in my 41 years as a mechanic I never heard of it, when a computor goes, nothing works.

Mini Cooper temperature gauge goes to red zone, fan comes on

If you have a new thermostat, then your temp sensor is faulty. If sensor is new, then it is the wiring to sensor or problem with the ECM

The sensor for the fans is in the rad at the bottom. T-stat may be bad or the rad may be clogged. Cooling system needs attention.
