OBD II Scanner TP180-CAN Error.

I hooked up scanner to 00 jeep grand cherokee laredo and keep getting error where it says Read has failed, and to verify connection at the DLC. Ive checked everything and still the same. Jeep gets power, fuel and turns but will not start. One of the relays does vibrate but im not sure what it could be.

Since the scanner powers on when hooked up we will assume the dlc is getting power, before you try to scan make sure the ign key is on and look at the lugs in the dlc and make sure they are not damaged, and if still not reading then I would think the ecm is bad,

Did you check for spark?
Try unhooking the battery and hold the ign key on start for 10 sec this will drain the power stored in the ecm and reset it,then try the scan tool again

If the obd 2 reader won't scan and it will not run it is probably a computer problem could even be a wiring problem to the computer not sure if you can get those checked or bite the bullet and buy one. call the jeep dealer in the morning and ask if they can check a computer to see if it is bad

I would first check for error codes using an OBD-II scanner tool- then research the Diagnostic Troubleshoot Code(s) to point you in the direction of the problem. Most common error is when DIYers read the scanner tool and automatically assume scanner codes pulled will pinpoint the exact problem. Scanner tools vary in scope. The bottom line, use the tool as a starting reference point, but you will have to test the component to make sure it is the one that is malfunctioning. Where is the OBD on a "94" jeep grand cherokee

why do you want to find it, unsaid? you dont have a tool for it.
OBD means on board diagnosis, the correct name is DLC.
the old one OBD1. (non standard)
the scanner must be JEEP OBD1 certified, or tool fails !!!!!
only my INNOVA , 3140 scan tool works(low cost)
in 1996 USA invented OBD2, and is a standard so all tools work
P0 codes, at least. (fed rules )
why not read the free manual>?

ZJ jeep USA
chapter 25 page 2, DLC is between your knees below steering column,

seen here for free, and is real book, not fack.

DLC is here, designed for JEEP tools
many top brand tools support it ,most are VISA card busting $$$$$$ $1000's

Have a warning light lighting up on my 2000 jeep.kinda looks like a movie camera.what does it mean? its upper right hand corner of dash....

That is a actually a side view of an engine, which is called a CEL ( Check Engine Light) and it will be lit up Orange in color. When it lights up it means the (ECM) Computer in the car is telling you that it has received a Trouble Code from a sensor or engine component and you need to have a OBD II (On Board Diagnostic II ) scanner or code reader hooked up to the Diagnostic Port located under the driver's side footwell. The reader will extract a specific code from the computer which a mechanic will look up and they can determine what component needs to be repaired or replaced. You can go to any AutoZone store and you can have the code read for free. Click on the link below for more information pertaining to this event.
