I hooked up scanner to 00 jeep grand cherokee laredo and keep getting error where it says Read has failed, and to verify connection at the DLC. Ive checked everything and still the same. Since the scanner powers on when hooked up we will assume the dlc is getting power, before you try to scan make sure the ign key is on and look at the lugs in the dlc and make sure they are not damaged, and if still not reading then I would think the ecm is bad,

Did you check for spark?
Try unhooking the battery and hold the ign key on start for 10 sec this will drain the power stored in the ecm and reset it,then try the scan tool again

If the obd 2 reader won't scan and it will not run it is probably a computer problem could even be a wiring problem to the computer not sure if you can get those checked or bite the bullet and buy one. call the jeep dealer in the morning and ask if they can check a computer to see if it is bad

I need to know what Trouble Codes the Computer is giving you, You can go to Autozone and they can hook a OBD II scanner to your vehicle for free to read the codes. Once you have the codes, please reply back here so we can help you diagnose and fix your problem.

Have a warning light lighting up on my 2000 jeep.kinda looks like a movie camera.what does it mean? its upper right hand corner of dash....

That is a actually a side view of an engine, which is called a CEL ( Check Engine Light) and it will be lit up Orange in color. When it lights up it means the (ECM) Computer in the car is telling you that it has received a Trouble Code from a sensor or engine component and you need to have a OBD II (On Board Diagnostic II ) scanner or code reader hooked up to the Diagnostic Port located under the driver's side footwell. The reader will extract a specific code from the computer which a mechanic will look up and they can determine what component needs to be repaired or replaced. You can go to any AutoZone store and you can have the code read for free. Click on the link below for more information pertaining to this event.

Ho do i get the error codes to appear on my jeep's dash.

1996 and newer vehicle have the OBD-2 (on board diagnostics-2) system and you need a scanner to retrieve the codes. You can go to Autozone or some other auto parts stores and they will scan your vehicle for free, or you can buy a code reader for under $100.00. A good scan tool is about $400.00 a great scan tool is about $6000.00. Good luck.
