Replaced front axles (cv boots where bad) now I have a loud clicking noise(not present before repair) coming from out near the hubs, or outer axle knuckle area. I thought the new axles maybe bad so did it twice, still same noise. COuld it be I need to change the differential and ****** fluid?

When I replace the axle halves, I run the Nut off till it is level with the shaft end. THen take a piece of wood and set it across the shaft and hit the wood with a hammer. Usually only takes one or two hits and pops right out. Then I remove the nut and finish removal . Hope this helps, Good luck and have a great day.

First thing to have checked would be the front CV axles. If the rubber boots rip and allow the grease out it can damage the joints and they will make a clicking sound. Worn out axle joints can also bind and make it feel jerky. If they are making that loud of a noise it could become a safety issue, have them checked out soon.

Do you know if this car has ever been recked? if your going thru that many axels makes me think something is not running true, a wheel bearing would not make a cv joint in a axel go bad. Did you replace the axels? or did you have them done at a shop, and did you see the old axels after they were replaced. You got bigger problems than a wheel bearing. From what i can gather some thing is bent or your getting bunch of bad axels witch i dought.

If the noise is coming from the area you say it could be loose torque converter bolts or a cracked flexplate. If you do not have one, a stethascope is available at the auto parts stores and that will help pinpoint the area where it is coming from.

I had the axles replaced at a shop. Same shop who rebuilt the whole top end of the motor a year ago. Engine runs like a champ. And I might ad We replaced the left axle twice and the right one once. So thats 3 axles. Still get the clicking noise. Can't be bad axles. The car (to my knowledge) has not been wrecked and the carfax was clean. This is a much louder noise than brake pads would make, and the pads ands rotors show no wear. The mechanic has 28 years experience, And I am not a bad shade tree mechanic myself. We are both baffled by this noise.
As a side bar---in case your wondering-- I was only charged for the 1st. axle repair. THe others have been gratis in an attempt to FIX the problem and keep my business. So no its not the shop running up my bill either.
GLAD TO HEAR THAT THERE AT LEAST TRYING TO HELP,NEVER THOUGHT THEY WERE.WASNT THINKING BRAKE PADS,BUT THE CLIP THAT HOLD THE PADS..ANTI RATTLE CLIPS..IF NOT ONLY THING I CAN THINK OF IS WHEEL BEARING ASSYS,W WHEELS IN THE AIR AND IN GEAR OF COURSE,USE STETHESCOPE ON BACK SIDE OF ASSYS..PLEASE KEEP ME INFORMED,YOU HAVE MY CURIOUSITY.GOOD LUCK SIR
We will get her back in the air later this week and will check the brake clips for sure, among other things. Wheel bearings, though it doesn't make the normal grinding type wheel bearing noise. IT is a loud clunk....clunk....clunk that increases with speed but totally goes away the second you let off the gas. Only when turning the wheel slightly left or right. Not going straight not in reverse not making a sharp turn. Mechanic is a true "good egg" when he was doing the top end work (for 2 weeks he wanted to get it right) he let me use his personal vehicle so I was not "inconvenienced' How many mechanics do that???? Not a company owned loaner car but his own cherished Tahoe. Good Egg for sure.
