Changed fuel filter car turns over wont start starts with starting fluid then dies
From your saying looks like you have a feeding problem. Do you hear the fuel pump working? if it is working check by using the fuel pressure tester how much is the flowing pressure and if it is in the recommended pressure flow. Also check even after the fuel filter if the fuel is flowing into the rail and the pressure regulator is working. Last check if your injection system is working ,if the ecu sends a message to the injectors to work.

I have a similar problem with my 99 cougar. It will start when I spray starting fluid in the intake and I have gas at the test point but it doesn't seem to make it to the injectors.

what is anti-theft light doing? It should come on solid for about 2 sec after you turn the key on then turn off. If it is flashing after this then it is not seeing the computer chip in the key and you have a PATS problem.

Well when you turn the keys on the pump will only run for a few seconds A test light works ok but i would use a volt meeter at th efuel pump power and groung wires and measure the voltage while cranking the car

here are things to do.
Clean MAF sensor wires with carb cleaner and toothbrush carefully. This will remove varnish.
Check under distributor cap and rotor (1 screw) and under slotted plate. If brown dust, you need new distributor. Clean optical sensors for cam sensor before re- assembling. Temporary fix only.
Check ECT, engine coolant temp sensor.
Have Autozone run free computer scan for fault codes.
