Digital odometer does not light up - 1998 Buick Century

Same fuse for dash lights, so if your dash and cluster lights work then your speedo unit is bad or your cluster has a bad trace.

is it a digital odometer the back light on the lcd may have burned out but the odometer is still working you just cant see it unless you look very carefully and in proper lighting to fix it you would have to replace the dash panel gauges

my truck did that and it was a PEC fuse

When if you exceed the limits of the odometer, in this case by driving one million miles, the odometer will start again at zero. Before the 6 digit odometers became common, you would see many cars that were over 100,000 miles and the odometer had "turned over". Million mile odometers were not common until the early 90's, so you will still see cars with the 5 digit odometer!

You did not mention what type of car you are asking about. (This is really MUST KNOW information if you want help with your vehicle. However, your description seems to indicate that you are describing a digital odometer. If some of the segments in a digital odometer are not lighting, then the odometer (or instrument cluster) will have to be replaced to fix it.

probably two separate issues.... the light is either the wiring or the socket.....odometer is probably the cable.

To query and OBD-I-era computer for these codes, put the key in the ignition and turn the key to run (not start), then off, then run, then off, then run (that's 3 runs and 2 offs). Leave the key in the run position.

The check engine light will turn on for a few seconds, then turn off, then (sometimes after 20-30 seconds) start flashing. The flashes are counting out 2-digit trouble codes. Fast flashes count up each digit, with a longer pause between digits. On TJ's with a digital odometer, the code numbers are printed on the odometer in addition to flashing the check engine light. 55 indicates the end of all codes. Once you've got your code list, consult the table below to see what they mean.

OBD-II information is more complex, so the codes for 1998 and newer Jeeps can't be displayed by flashing the check engine light. However, those vehicles which have digital odometers will display the codes on the odometer. I've verified this personally on a 1999 WJ. For those vehicles without digital odometers, or for anybody who wants an English description rather than just a numeric code, an OBD-II code scanner ($100-300) can be plugged in under the dash. the odometer backlight bulb is replacable but the illimunation bulbs for the other gages are not.
